Just because of you know this SEA sport, I salute you.

Seriously, I am very amazed that someone from North America would know this rarely known sport games, I dare to say not even an Asian out of SEA region could describe the game correctly. So do you actually play Sepak Takraw?

Now, only if you know/play "Kabaddi" as well... :D

Back to the topic, from the limited number of games I watched in those years (both MJ's and Dream's games), I would take MJ without doubt. But Dream deserves your first overall pick and respects from all Houstonians.

That's because Jordan dropped 69 on the Celtics and whupped the Lakers in the 91" Finals. They had no comeback after that. :)

My question is, if Hakeem played in a bigger media market, whupped the Lakers/Celtics/Bulls and earned say 5-6 championships, would the opinions be different?

Don't forget the mid-80s Houston team was hailed as a dynasty in the making and if wasn't for the Sampson career-killing injury and some stupidity, maybe history would be different in this Hakeem v MJ debate.

Hakeem and MJ are trancendent talent, statiscally MJ is "better" but Hakeem is Houston from college to pro so I would pick him in the 84 draft 10 times out of 10.

Hakeem was a better individual player than Jordan. Jordan might have been the best guard ever, and Hakeem might not quite be the best center ever, but Hakeem was still a better player.

But that's not how reality goes. Reality is that Jordan's and Dream's championships were the product of a process that got each player the right complimentary players, the right coach and the right matchups. If Jordan was on the Rox and Hakeem wasn't there's no way of telling how those other things shape out. Obviously both Jordan and Hakeem are phenomenal players and Jordan deserves the accolades. That doesn't mean that you can just swap them and say that the Rox win 6 championships.

let me remind people of the thread:
Rocket fans, are you happy we drafted Hakeem over Jordan?

    As a ROCKET FAN,
I couldn't ask for any better excitement that the Rockets Championships and watching Hakeem. Not only the championships but the great games and rivalries in the West. Also, Jordan proved he was the best player against others in his position and Hakeem did the same.

    Dream dominated
Kareem (yeah so he was old)
    Shaq
    Robinson
    Ewing

ROCKET FANS enjoyed the DOMINANCE over DALLAS and SAN ANTONIO back in the day. oh the glory days.

how exactly was the dream the better player? how many times have you heard people debate whether or not the dream was the best player to have ever play the game? never. how many times have you heard it about jordan? all the time.

you have to be full of yourself to think hakeem was the better player...i know all of us love the dream for what he did for us and what he means to the city...but if you would just swallow your pride and ego, you just might be able to admit it. so why wouldn't you want to draft arguably one of the greatest player ever? and if you still think the dream was a better player then so be it, you're entitled to your opinion as i am...there's never gonna be a definite answer when it comes to hypothetical questions just opinions and more hypothetical questions

If Chicago had the number one pick, they would have picked Hakeem. Hakeem was the number one pick that year, everyone knew it. We got Hakeem because we had the number one pick.

The real question is if we didn't win the lottery, would we have made the right decision to pick Jordan???? Chicago did.

But hindsight is 20/20...rerun the scenario a 1000 times, every team in the league would have picked Hakeem with the info they had - and it turned out to be a great pick.

Worst thread ever by tinman

The point is Rox are happy with the Hakeem pick. No need to be silly
and homerish to argue Hakeem better than Jordan.

Im not saying Hakeem is better than Jordan. I'm just saying Rocket fans are happy with Hakeem pick over Jordan. Someone brought it up in another thread.

And look, according to the "ROCKET FANS" a % of them didn't feel that #1 should be Hakeem.

look if I started a thread saying did you like Calvin Murphy over Clyde Drexler for TV Broadcast, I'm sure some people like Drexler's blurbs more. You just have to toss out the question.

Hi Tinman, how do you make a poll thread? I 'm just wondering, because I never posted a poll before! When you 're done with typing, do you only have to mark: post a poll? Or do I have to do something else also?

    Gotta go w/ Dream.

Jordan never won a title w/o Pippen(that big baby) and a some good supporting casts to take the slack off. Ho. Grant, B.J. Armstrong, Paxson, Rodman, R. Harper and Kukoc(who was the top euro player at the time).

The 1st Rox title...it was pretty much on Dream.
Now don't get me wrong...OT, Horry, Kenny, Sam, Mad Max and Mario all did their part but none of them at that time could even be close to being considered a strong #2 go to guy as Pippen was in the early to mid '90's.

Nowadays most of the time you need 2 big stars to win a title...the 93-94 Rockets were an exception to that theory...Thanks to Dream.

With Jordan we would have done very well, possibly a few titles....But since Dream gave us the city's 1st sports championships...no one should complain...I'd take him over Jordan again.

    I beg to differ.

History has proven when Dream has had crap players around him, the Rockets would fall falter early in the playoffs.
This is the same with Jordan pre-championships.

Pippen was not as good as Horry/Sam/Max/Mario etc
This is proven by Pippen's performance with the Rockets and the Blazers.
Pippen failed to show leadership skills, defense, and offense when it counted.
    Pippen didn't show clutchness.
Pippen vs Horry (Blazers vs Lakers -no jordan/dream) Pippen chokes, Horry hits clutch 3s.

Dream is still #1 and that 1993 Rockets team would have beaten the Bulls because they were the BETTER TEAM.
Dream did his job, but the Clutch shooting was done by Vernon, Sam, Mario, Horry.

Jordan did most of the clutch shooting. The Paxon/Kerr shots were a few exceptions.

Vernon saved the Rockets by going crazy against the Suns etc.

Dream had the HARDER ROLE, being a center. He was constantly fouled and quadruple teamed and zoned (when zone was illegal). That's why it was critical that they surround Dream with good players.

its not as easy to quadrouple team a 2 guard since he handles the ball outside the perimeter.

Hakeem...because he was a great person and leader in our community...he wasn't your typical athlete (i.e jordan) and he was very soft spoken..especially latter in his career.....an easy guy to root for...plus he got us 2 championships and we don't know if Jordan would have gotten us any.....no brainer to me...
