Rocket fans, are you happy we drafted Hakeem over Jordan?

Another thing to consider in this, the Trailblazers.

Had Houston drafted Jordan #1, that leaves Olajuwon still on the board, then PORTLAND drafts Olajuwon instead of Bowie, they just have to. Then its Drexler and Olajuwon together early on, Phi Slamma Jamma graduated into the pros. Portland went to 2 NBA finals in the 90's with a conference final in between those - imagine how many championships THEY WOULDA won?

Back to the Hakeem or Jordan question, yes I'm happy with Hakeem drafted by the Rockets over Jordan and have never felt any remorse or similar type emotions about it. In hindsight would I do the same thing? I'd have to say...no....The top 2-4 center all time or the greatest PLAYER EVER - not too difficult a decision really. Though I can imagine Jordan having an all the way through Lebron-type career if he'da went to Houston. Him being that heralded #1 pick getting that media love, fan hype and endorsements, but not much success in the postseason from it. But there's no guarantee Phil Jackson enters the picture either with Hakeem going to the Bulls so...

To only get Hakeem as consolation....oh whimper :)

Dude, I never said I hated Vince Young. Go look in those past threads during the Bush/Young thread. I was all for the Texans drafting Vince Young. And then that Friday afternoon when I found out that the Texans were selecting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush, and I guess Vince Young, I was disappointed. I was kinda heart broken. It would have been some type fantasy story book. But it was not to be.
I got over it. I'll cheer for the Texans still. I'll keep a close eye on the Titans. Hell, I did compliment VY on that tackle after his INT, cause that was one sweet hustle play. His run on the Texans was pretty sweet...except it happened on the Texans.

I think you can be pretty funny sometimes, because you are overbearingly obnoxious about stuff. Look at the HDTV thread.

So VY wears a Rockets Jersey. That's fantastic. What it has to do with the Texans and Titans, I don't know. Is it cause VY is clutch? Jim Leyritz is clutch, but I don't see him rolling around in Rockets gear, atleast that I know of.
I wear a Rockets Jersey, that makes me clutch too then.

I'm sure Luther Head has been to other people's party. I'm sure Vince Young has been to other people's party. So what's the big deal? They're rich young folks. It's what they do. Play ball, play videos games, and party. If youre Shawn Kemp, you make babies. Yeah, I know Deke is like 80 years old, and should be collecting Social Security checks, but he's out there. I'm sure he is there to socially network, and help him with his charities.

You met some former Rockets! Fantastic! Does that discredit people who did not/have not met Rockets players?

I bet Hakeem has shaken hands with hundreds, maybe thousands of people. I'm sure he has shaken hands with Prime Ministers, Kings and Queens, Presidents, Dictators, Presidents, Holy folks. I'm sure you're just one of many. But if it made you feel special, congrats to you.

If I was to ever meet, I don't know, Vanessa Hudgens, yeah, i'd probably be happy. Not overly excited, but Happy. If I was to meet Jessica Alba, yeah, i'd be excited. If I was to meet Anna Kournikova, yeah, I could probably die on the spot. But I know I would just be one of many, so it's no spectacular feat.

And what makes you say I'm not cool with the Rockets? I have to be a Vince Young Super Fan to be a Rockets fan?

If I was to ever see Vince Young on the street, which I could, seeing as I live in good Ol' H-town, cause you know how Kam represents H-town, kinda like How Vince Young represents H-town, and not some other city, I'd tell him this.

    Restraining Order.

oh, and because this is in a rockets forum.

that team from 1984 is different from a team in 1994.
Say we drafted Jordan, maybe we would have made different roster moves.

    I'm happy with Dream.

and if you want to quote some songs, try picking some good songs.
I mean, who the hell seriously uses Stunna?

I'm not exactly hip hop culture, but I know people don't use Stunna. And even if they did, I'm sure they stopped a long time ago.

that team was basically the early 90s team.

What about from the mid 80s to the late 80s? Who knew what type of roster moves would have happened with Jordan on the Roster.

Let me put it this way: I don't believe that MJ could have done more with what Dream was given throughout his tenure with the Rockets than what we got out of Dream (2 championships, that is).

How about this: how many championships would the Rockets have if Dream had Pippen by his side throughout the first decade of his career?

Dream had no help until late in his career, and he made the most out of it; in fact, he won his first championship without another superstar by his side...MJ never won anything until Pippen became a superstar in his own right.

You honestly think that MJ would have won 6 rings with the same sort of 'help' Dream had in Houston, and more importantly without Pippen -- or another bona fide superstar player -- by his side? Heck, the Bulls lost to the Shaq-led Magic team in the 1995 playoffs, and that same Magic team got whupped by Dream and the Rockets in the Finals. I remember many basketball analysts commenting on the Bulls' lack of "inside presence" and how the Magic managed to take advantage of that. Ironically, that missing "inside presence" was namely Horace Grant, who had left to Orlando to play besides Shaq and help him defeat Jordan and the Bulls.

Next season the Bulls move to fortify their front line and acquire Dennis Rodman, hoping that he can fill the void created by Grant's departure.

Perception doesn't make reality. There is obviously no way to prove who's 'right', but it isn't like any player in the history of the NBA would stand a chance going head-to-head against Jordan, so of course he would win in any national poll, hands-down.

But again, that doesn't prove anything...

Hakeem would win by a large margin over anybody in NBA history in this forum. That reminds me that Hakeem would destroy Yao thread.

In real world, Jordan is likely to win by a huge margin on any non-Rockets message board. I've seen players took Hakeem over Shaq, but I haven't seen any player who played against Hakeem and Jordan at the same time would rather have Dream over MJ.

But you threw VY into this thread.

I said this question was thrown to me by a Texan fan:
    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2673908&postcount=58
    And the Rocket Nation responds.

Absolutely. I was given superpowers by the former Rockets. I was given the power of ClutchCity.

You have to be a Rocket fan to be on this board, though I believe some people here are faking it. No but VY is a Rockets fan. that's why he wears the Rockets Jersey. Which means he's one of us.

If you made it big in the NFL and were drafted by a non Texans team, I'm sure
plenty of Clutchfans will root for you since you are one of us. Bud Adams or not.

Oh by the way, I did see VY in public, I said " yo Vince!" and he smiled then rolled off in his Tahoe sitting on chrome!

Yeah, if I helped one person realize that he was a cheap skate, and he bought himself a nice HDTV, then I accomplished my mission.

There has never been a commentator, analyst, coach, player, or anyone who said that the Rockets made a mistake in drafting Hakeem over Jordan.

If you were to do it again, of course you'd draft Hakeem...centers are just so much rarer.

I mean, no one knew that Jordan would become the greatest player to play the game. But people had a suspicion that Hakeem might be the greatest center to play. That potential was known right off the bat.

It was inspired from the VY thread, no?

don't know what to say about that. I''m sure you wear your underwear on your head, and wear a towel as a cape. That's cool.

umm. I've seen lots of people wear jerseys that they're not fans of. I think they wear it, especially, their throw back jerseys cause it goes awesome with their fitted caps, and their air force ones. i'm sure he's a fan though.

I don't know of any clutchfans member making it in the NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL/MLS/EuroFootball team/Cricket/Rugby/Sepak Takraw
Basically, I don't know Vince Young. Never met him. I don't roll in his posse. I am not a family member. I'm not a close friend. But if I was, I would probably be in Titans gear. If I did make it big in a profesional sports league in America, I'd be extra careful and leary of people on this board, cause we all have said stupid things, and then it would be used agaisnt us. Plus, I don't want hanger ons, and leaches riding my coat tails. I know who I am cool with, and not cool with. I've met lots of people off this bbs. I'm sure they would root for me. maybe not. but whatever.

you're not that great of a fan. one of those crazy 4 u fans would have chased VY down and said hello to him. If I saw Anna, holy ****, I would be chasing her down to tell her hello, and that she is my hero.

i will be purchasing one big one, or two decent size ones this spring. not because you are calling people a cheapskate, it's cause i want to watch football/basketball/High School Musical in high def.
    (unless i buy another car).

    what about post number 64?
    do that one.

So what is perception and what is reality here? There were many great players played against MJ and Dream in their prime. Basicly all of them said MJ was the greatest player at that time, that's how reality goes.

Not to take anything away from Hakeem, draft Hakeem with #1 pick at that moment was the right decision, and he was great. But MJ turned out to be possibly the greatest player who ever played basketball, that's also reality.

I remember even before MJ got his Chmpionship, the arguement of who was the best player was between Jordan and Magic Johnson, who already has rings. After Jordan's 6 championships, it's all over. The all time greats like Bird and Magic all said Joradn was better than them publicly, but I don't remember they said anyone else was better than them.

It's an unfair question to ask any true Rockets fan. Deep down we all know who the better player was but we're also more than satisfied with what Hakeem did for us. It's one of those questions you just never ask.

hakeem is as special as jordan was but there are other factors involved in winning a championship.

you switch their draft positions and you might be asking, are you happy we drated jordan over hakeem?

in the end we still got 2 rings and a lot of great memories.

as for sampson, he too was special. you can't predict injuries and had he been healthy i doubt anyone would have questioned what if we had gotten so and so for him. the twin towers philosophy wasn't the problem.

hakeem is one of the best centers of all time...but mj is hands down THE best player to have ever played the game...i don't think anyone outside of the bbs would have chosen hakeem over mj if they had to do it over again
    hakeem < mj

how many championships did jordan win with another hall of famer? zero.

dream won a championship with great role players and no stars. give dream a healthy sampson for his career and dream is on the level of jordan in the eye of the public.

I never specifically called anyone on clutchfans as a cheapskate.

I'm just saying you can't be rolling in a porsche and have a 13inch ZENITH with no cable tv.

    people like that exists.

that was a great thread. I enjoyed it.

if you asked me on any thread, the Texans, Hangout, etc..
that you didn't think Robert Horry looks like Will Smith.

I would have thrown a poll about it.

    Get Jiggy.
