I've only heard Clyde on the highlight video of the magic game, but man oh man is he terrible. All he does is repeat whatever Bill says.

Bill: "Tmac working his magic on the Magic!"
Clyde: "That's a lot of magic!"

Bill: "They've got the kamikaze team out there."
Clyde: "That's the kamikaze team. And they're balls out hustle."

    Bill: "McGrady with a block."
    Clyde: "Yup. Great block."

Bill: "Alston with a three. How bout that great passing?"
    Clyde: "Great passing."

Kill me now. Not one insightful comment. At least Van gave plenty of insight. It made up for his accent.

Why did they hire Clyde and why on earth did Clyde want this job?

You'd think someone who applies for a commentating job would have something to say.

calvin will always be the best and he was a small part of my enjoyment of the rockets season.

bullard is tolerable, and i think he has potential but the best thing i can say about clyde is he's not cooper.

i think they should have seriously used jeff hagedorn or atleast van chancellor.

We have a 4th vote for Clyde Drexler. I repeat: 4TH VOTE for Drexler. What a development we have here in a poll otherwise dominated by Calvin

A lot of people only remember Calvin's hijinx... but the guy was one of the most insightful color commenators I've ever listend to (and that includes all National broadcasters.... Mike Fratello, Hubie Brown, JVG, Doug Collins).

Since he was so much of a homer, Calvin was never really considered for a national gig... but it wasn't because of his lack of basketball knowledge, or the way he comes across vocally on a broadcast.

He speaks well, has good moderation in his tone, makes great VALID points, and can provide comic releif.

If Marv Albert could get his NATIONAL job back... Calvin should be able to get his local one.

    Van Chancellor was awesome.

Clyde: "Calvin Murphy is not walking through that door".

I don't like Clyde, I rooted for that team but I never really liked the guy. He's a clubhouse lawyer and his mama's barbeque sucks.

    Hilarious!!

Reminds me of the ol' Oiler days with Tom Franklin and Bum Phillips

Tom: Incomplete pass. I really think the receivers need to stick to their routes better. Timing routes have to be very precise and our QB and receivers don't seem like they're on the same page today. What do you think, Bum?

    Bum: Yep.

    (awkward silence)

I love Calvin but what he was accused of, what marv albert was convicted of is nowhere near the level. And the 14x9 is going to stick in people's memories whether he was guilty or not.

Damn, I miss Calvin. Bull is O.K., but Drexler is so boring.

I can understand everyone wanting to bring back Calvin. But, how can Van score second highest. The man was an idiot. If I heard one more "At this particular time" phrase I think I would put my foot through the television.
That combined with his his straw chomping redneck accent made you want to kill. This was a man who could make Gomer Pyle sound like Orson Wells.
He belongs calling an Oklahoma high school football team,..or maybe coach of a WNBA team.

Maybe FSN and/or the Rockets should have hired someone that actually has the credentials and experience to do color commentary instead of former basketball players (Calvin excluded of course). Cooper was horrible, Clyde seemed boring, and Bull isn't lively enough either. Van was ok, though, after you got used to his twang...he was at least energetic and you absolutely need that out of the color commentator.

But Calvin should have been brought back. PERIOD.

Van was no more annoying than Calvin when he was being silly. It took a little getting used to but I like Van's commentary. It was insightful and his accent alone made me laugh quite a few times.

"Dey got ta get T-Mac da bas-keeet-bawl." :D

I prefer Calvin. he was a perfect complement to Bill, IMO...calvin brought the witty and extreme while Bill was more grounded and straight-forward...

Calvin is the best one in that list....
Dynamic, flamboyant, a little irritating at times, great B-ball IQ, and I hate to admit it but I kind of looked forward to seeing his latest pimp suit at game time... :D

Bull is ok but a little flat at times.

Haven't heard enough of Clyde since its only one game but it didn't make me say "dang clyde was good" after hearing him.
