Les never liked him. He tried to get rid of him before, but there was a public outcry so he brought him back. Now there will be no outcry so he is gone. I just think people here are too picky. Lisa Malosky was great at her job. But the shallow people complained, called her ugly etc. So then we got Cynthia Cooper instead. Now that was bad. Clyde might be bad but it was his first game, preseason at that. I think he will improve. I think once the season starts, the chatter will stop some and the talk will be a little more serious. Bullard is not great either, but I don't care. I just don't care. Go Rockets!
And if you left out Calvin, Van would have had the high number. I wish Calvin was back. Bull and Clyde are horrible. I'd rather have Van back.
Do this poll again after they've had most of the season under their belts. They will improve... enough to beat out Calvin Murphy - I think not.
What is with the Rockets hiring these people? First Cynthia Cooper, now Clyde Drexler. It's going downhill...maybe we should just be happy with Clyde and hope it doesn't get any worse.
I ain't from Houston, and the only one I ever heard of is Calvin Murphy since he played for the Rockets...
I don't get why everyone is so infatuated with Calvin Murphy. He was quite possibly the most unprofessional and obnoxious fool on television. I don't miss him, although I will admit that he and Bill did have great chemistry together. As for Clyde... One word. Boring. That's just Clyde though. He has never been very out spoken. My problem with him was that he didn't seem to bring much insight to the broadcast. That and he uses the word "great" way the Hell to much. Which brings me to the new Rockets broadcast drinking game.... Clyde says "great", audience gets to take a sip. We'll all be wasted by halftime. I love Clyde, I really do, but Van is the man as far as I am concerned.
When Calvin wanted to talk basketball, he was great at it. I didn't mind his joking around. That was fun, too, but I can see how that gets on people's nerves. I've heard Clyde being interviewed and if his broadcasts are anything like his interviews, I'd blow my head off by halftime. Everybody knocked Van because of his "hick" accent. Van started out kind of unsure, but I loved the insight he provided - he was probably my favorite along with Murphy. I haven't heard enough of Bull to make a comment. Haggadorn also isn't getting enough credit in this thread. He deserves bigger and better things - he seemed like a born-broadcaster to me.
So you are looking for something in between? Thats what people loved about Calvin hence Color Commentator... He adds that personality to an allready bland Bill. With that duo you get the best of both .
Calvin, but I thought Clyde was decent for the first time out. It took me a couple of years to warm up to Worrell, so I can give Clyde a while to settle in and see how eh does. Bull's got some work to do.
