Lukas I think has some talent as an artist/singer, but is way too wimpy/whiney for a rock band, particularly like the kind I think the other guys want to be. I don't think they are going for the introspective, self-loathing, metrosexual type even if it is popular with plenty of girls. They want to kick ass, not lead with the guy who got his assed kicked throughout secondary school.

Magni seems like a dime a dozen, like you could find him in a cover band in any town. But he would probably fit in and assure the other guys they are the stars, which might be what they want.

Dilana is the bomb if they can handle a chick who will get more attention than they will. We will see if they are truly ballsey and roll with her, or just pretend ballsey.

Toby is the safest choice, but then the band will assure itself to being less memorable than even your typically characterless supergroup. Maybe they won’t care, they already got the pub and some sold out shows and can run through the motions if they want. Magni fills the bill here too, probably even moreso than Toby.

This is about the 2nd time I've seen any part of this show. Toby's "White Wedding" was horrible if you ask me.

I wonder if all that crazy sh*t Dilana pulled hurt her. Psycho Houstonian. lol. I still just didn't see this band having a woman front them. Congrats to the winner! That must be a pretty cool feeling to win something like that. He moved up an echelon. He's hanging with the big boys now. Let's hope the band doesn't suck. The house band could best them with you-know-who fronting them on the tour.

On another note, there is a already a band named Supernova out there. So, a judge ruled they have to change their name. LMAO

Well, judging by the 2 songs they played at the end of the show, I think they have plenty of potential.....for some serious sucktitude. Hiring that little boy with all the makeup for a lead singer sure isn't going to help them. "Hey, hey, hey, and we ho, ho, ho!!" Uh....more like "gay, gay, gay, no, no, no"

Tommy was a good rock drummer back in the day, but father time is starting to catch up with him. Gilby was a rhythm guitarist. Not sure if he can play a strong lead guitar or not. And Jason, he's just never done anything for me as a bassist.

They look like they're just going through the motions up there. My guess is that they stay together for as long as they are contractually obligated to, then split up and never look back.

I sure wouldn't pay to see them. I would, however, pay to see that House Band. Especially that bad ass drummer Nate Morton, who was the main reason I watched the show.

My .02 even though I hate these shows, I got sucked into this one.

Ryan was the best all around performer, writer, singer on the show. He didn't fit Supernova, but...more on that in a minute.

Toby had the best voice, but he's not ready for prime time. He's still learning the ropes and he was clearly nervous. His song should be a hit though. That damn thing is catchy.

Magni has probably the best stage presence and is the most modern rock-y of the bunch. I kinda had my money on him even though he wasn't my favorite.

I cannot stand Lukas' voice. I guess the pick was made based on his uniqueness, but that sheep vibrato he has is freaking annoying.

I think Dilana actually fit Supernova better than anyone else. She is ideal fronting a big, loud, nasty rock band. When Gilby offered to produce her and write for her, I though to myself, "If I were her, I'd be like, uh, no thanks." She's a dynamite performer and singer, but her lyrics are God awful. I think the fact that she is a woman ultimately doomed her.

I started to think about it and of the real rock stars that have existed, how many females can you name as front people? And this doesn't count Stevie Nicks or anyone that leaned towards pop. In reality, all I could think of were Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Ann Wilson and Pat Benetar. Women just don't have the same shot out there with hard rock that guys do.

Supernova, with or without any of the aforementioned singers, is going to suck. Their songs are bad. No, their songs are hideous. Tommy Lee is a good rock drummer, but who gives a crap about Gilby? I like Jason Newstead as a person, but he isn't exactly a virtuoso on his instrument. He's solid I guess, but so what. There are 10,000 guys that could do what he does.

Frankly, the house band was about 100 times better than Supernova. Of course, they were playing some great hit including all time classics, but that is one ridiculous assemblage of musicians right there. They probably can't write anything, but that drummer alone is the sickness.

Jeff, I agree 100% with your post, but please don't forget Joan Jett.

    :D

Also, Ryan and Magni were clearly musicians, and I figured they both could add an entirely new element to SuperNova.

I could not stand SuperNova's songs, and felt Toby's original, and Storm's What the what...were by far and away the best.

When Lucas won, I was like WTF? Ultimately I don't think the guys wanted to go on the road with a female lead, but I think Dilana had an incredible voice and her version of Roxanne was out of this world.

Ha ha. I admit, I watched it as well this year. It started out as "I'm bored and nothing is on" and went to "Most of these people suck...I'll give it one more week" to "Dilana should win this because she is crazy and I dig her but for some odd reason they like Lukas so he will win."

Dilana never had a chance because she is a woman. I think the show tried really hard to make her look bad those few weeks because she kept winning the popular vote. She was the most mature and powerful (which is funy because she is TINY) out there for a "hard rock" band. I agree Jeff - I hope she stays away from Gilby and think her not winning was good for her because Supernova will be garbage.

Lukas is a joke. He sure did prance around a lot and his "sheep vibrato" often killed the musicality of whatever he was singing. And my wife and I were mesmerized/horrified by the triangle that often formed with his eyebrows...didn't think that was possible. I thought it was funny that the first song the band performed was the one Toby did and did much much better (despite it being a crappy song). Once again I invoke my wife - she said the part where he was basically talking lyrics reminded her of joke songs like "The Monster Mash".

But, yeah, it is funny. Tommy is most famous for his penis and being a part of the now "icky" hair metal genre - writer of such songs as "Girls, Girls, Girls", Gilby's claim to fame was he replaced Izzy in GnR for three whole years (yet somehow he is the "writer" of the bunch and is giving workshops?), and Jason was punished for years within Metallica because he was not Cliff Burton and the hosts kept sayin "How amazing was it to play with ___________?" Oh yeah, and they are all in their 40's. But I agree the house band (drummer especially) were great and some of the performers really grew on me so it was fine watching it.

You consider Stevie Nicks as a pop singer????? Of your group I'd consider Benetar more of a pop singer.

A couple more for your list:

    Chrissie Hynde
    Courtney Love
    Pattie Smith
and don't forget Wendy O. Williams

i think magni's style would have fit best, but he dissapears behind the big shows guys.

toby would have brought the most sales/sold out shows

dilana would have been too much for even tommy to handle, 2 egos too many.

    the winner:

lukas is an interesting choice, i dont think he fits with the other 3 and especially hearing the 2 songs, and some of their other material.

    we shall see.

I thought Dilana would win because her silhouette was in the show's logo for cryin' out loud. She was a supernova.

    Lukas was puke-us.

Magni had some instrument skills... and other dude, Toby could pull it off.

Lukas and his glittery eyes will make SuperNova = stupid-no-uh.

btw- What happpened to the big INXS comeback?

That kills me too. Why do some singers think that much vibrato makes you sound good? It's kind of like all those American Idol singers who think they have to embellish EVERY SINGLE NOTE to sound good. In a way, I think it hides the fact that you can't sing ON KEY.

But yeah, Pukus's vibrato makes Belinda Carlisle sound like Etta James....

Excellent synopsis Jeff (esp The House Band, they are so d*mn good!). I like Magni and was relieved that he wasn't stuck with those dolts (d*mn, their originals suuhucked). Just like Marty last year, I wish he could steal the house band and take off. Ryan was highly entertaining also, Dilana absoutely fit them best; bizzarre they can't see that.

If by "highly entertaining" you mean a complete and total douchebag, then yes, I agree.
