Don't diss Foreigner like that. Thems fightin' words!! They had plenty of hits before their wuss ballad:

    *Feels Like The First Time
    *Cold As Ice
    *Head Games
    *Double Vision
    *Juke Box Hero
    *Urgent

I don't intend to defend or speak for The Goo Goo Dolls.

Oh, OK. I know five of those six songs, just didn't know who had done them (I'm not quite as "Old School", I guess.) They're OK for 70's rock, I guess. ;)

A minor correction, OS -- 'Almost Paradise' wasn't actually Loverboy, it was a duet with the lead singer of LB and some chick.

I really don't think it has much to do with ballads, as far as the reason these groups eventually flame out. There are plenty of examples to the contrary -- Aerosmith "Angel", Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home", Ozzy/Lita Ford "Close My Eyes Forever", etc. Popularity for all those groups rose and continued to rise after those ballads.

Also, "I Was Made for Loving You" wasn't really a ballad...it was KISS jumping on the Disco bandwagon ('Dynasty' was a great album!). Their first real 'ballad' would've been 'Beth', and their popularity really rose after that song.

Great thread though. I'm always game to talk about 70s/80s rock!

These are all wussy rock songs. Ballads aren't the only thing soft about Foreigner.

I am a youngin, i am only 18, but man i know who you guys are talking about, I just don't know the songs, (or if i want to.)
I am a fan o the 80s music, but not hairband crap. I like the brit pop post punk thing. Rock stars do have that sensitve side, like in that one comercial.

I understand that about the Loverboy lead singer and the duet with Ann (or is it Nancy?) Wilson of Heart. But it IS included in Loverboy's Greatest Hits CD.

I didn't say EVERY ballad or love song ruined EVERY group...just those that I named. Maybe I should have defined it as songs that ruined a group. KISS though went on and had some decent hits like "Lick It UP" and "God Made Rock n Roll ??". But I think "I Was Made For Loving You" is a good example of the ultimate sell out. Even though I thought the song was cool at the time (I wasn't a big KISS fan before and do like disco) it was still pretty stupid on their part.
