Doesn't Michael Jackson own the rights to those songs?

The problem with 50's and 60's songs were that they were extremely lame.

Why not do a "Guitar Hero: Smoke on the Water and Iron Man" extended set?

    Oh, and JaWindex: Kudos. ;)

Music rhythm games are more popular than sports games now. The genre is here to stay.

Personally, I like the throwback to simpler, old school gaming. Memory/reflex based gaming where the goal is to achieve high scores, easy to pick up and play for 10 minutes or an hour.

Easy. People like great songs. You can pick up and sing or play instruments pretty casually and easily. And with your friends for a little party.

Or you can just belt out "Livin' on a Prayer" by yourself like I did earlier today. :)

Here is what I simply don't "get."

Being good at this game doesn't take you anywhere, other than a new song and a high score.

I got over that crap in the 80's. These day's I want my dedication to mean something, even if it's r****ded, much like my failed attemp to see ms. pac man marry pac man back in the day. (An elusive "if you get this far" idea that I've never seen realized)

Hell, that's a thread right there...

    You Really Got Me
    Green River
    Time of the Season

I mean, do I really need to list the other 500+ songs to prove my point that the '60s music wasn't lame? Not to mention that without the following individuals, you wouldn't have AC-DC, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, blah, blah:

    Chuck Berry
    Elvis Presley
    Buddy Holly

God, I hope this turns into another "Rock Band is LAm3RZ you guys aren't real musicians...YES WE ARE YOU ARE TEH LAM0RX" threads. We haven't had enough of those.

Anyway, on topic, this is AWESOME. I hope they don't do a stand alone game. But however they do it, I will be all over this.

Well said. I will be playing this as well.

And music in the 60's was spectacular.

If AC/DC gets their own stand alone game, you know damn well The Beatles will too.

I'm not a huge Beatles fan but more music is always great. I <3 RB.

I was on the "real musicians against Guitar Hero" bandwagon last year....until I actually played it last Christmas. It's a blast to play with your friends after a few beers.

That being said, I have never played drums on Rock Band and I would probably not enjoy it.

But I think ANYTHING that gets teenagers listening to GOOD music (even if it's a video game) is a beautiful thing.

A while back, I was in the car with my nephew and Dream Police came on the radio. My 6-year-old nephew looked at me and said, "hey, that's Cheap Trick!" and started singing along.

Friends, I was never more proud to be his Uncle than I was at that very moment. It literally brought a tear to my eye.

    Thank you, Guitar Hero.

Well, Kotaku had a conference call and the announcment was made. It will be a standalone game. In fact, there is no evidence that this game will even be related to Rock Band at this point. It is being developed by Harmonix and they stated it would use the Rock Band instruments, but that is about it. Maybe the games will be capable of being ported to Rock Band, they wouldn't say. Anyway, here is the link:

If they really do allow you to play the entire Beatles catalog...****, I'd be willing to pay a hefty sum of money for this game, but hopefully it stays at or around $60. I'm a little nervous at the idea of the "visual exploration". I hope they don't have powerups that allow your characters to trip on shrooms. Rock Band has a pretty solid setup for this type of thing. No need to get crazy and change stuff up.

looks like its going to be a stand alone project, not be within Rock Band

    http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/rock-band-the-beatles-now-official/

that kinda sucks, that just another reason to get us to spend $60 for ANOTHER game instead as DLC, then again, if Aerosmith-AC/DC-Metallica are getting their stand alone game, I should expected this

EDIT: Raven beat me by 1 min :D
