Robert Williams knows Ime's defensive schemes, is unselfish, and was a generational type defender when healthy-ish that one year (I'm not being hyperbolic either). But he's oft injured and has a degrading condition in his legs, which means he'll never be ol' reliable in terms of availability. That said, having someone like this to play defense with Amen + Tari + Jabari would be absolutely devastating when Alpi is taking a break. If he's gonna cost like one second round pick or a straight up swap with Jock, I think the Rockets would have to do it.
A couple places said the Rockets would have to give up Cam for Williams. That’s a hard no from me without more.
While, I love the way Adams controls the paint defensively, in the Playoffs he's going to get exposed, same for Alpi. The Rockets will need someone who can get out in space defensively. Imagine this lineup; C - Williams - he can block shots and score PF - Jabari - he can block shots and score SF - Brooks - defend the perimeter and score SG - Jalen - defend some and score PG - Amen - do everything
If this is the case I rescind my vote, and that flushes negotiations down the drain. Absolutely not, it would have to be realistic.
No way they give up a young piece for a rental. Rafeal is way to smart for that. However, I can see Tate or Landale and a #2 pick.
Yea. If we're giving up Cam, I'm passing on this. Robert Williams hasn't proved he can stay healthy. He's played like 50 games in his last 200. Dude is more injury prone than Zion and way less talented. Don't get me wrong, if he was healthy, he'd be a perfect backup on our team under Ime but I just don't see it (healthy) happening.
Exactly. Robert Williams might as well shuffle to his bench seat behind active players while wearing a hospital gown and pushing his IV drip. Dude is never healthy. Why do media douchers mention him?
"...for a talent like Williams" who always seems to miss most of a season. I'll take him, but I ain't giving up Whitmore for him unless there's something else involved in the trade :
I definitely understand his lack of health and did the same checking his numbers, my rationale is that he'd essentially be our third-string center. He would be a low-risk high-reward player in that position. If you check the playoff tab, he recovers and stays healthy for the postseason and he's pretty impactful. Essentially he could be in a spot-time role with high upside for the postseason. Rarely play him, keep him healthy, and then you can unleash him in the postseason depending on matchups. Those health numbers are why Portland should be realistic. Landale and second-round picks get them a healthy quality backup player with a team-friendlier contract. Or straight up save 13 million, tank and use our MLE with a couple of SRPs. They are essentially in the Cooper Flagg race and should be gathering assets/picks. Like we were when we traded Gordon to a contender, who was much healthier. But if they get crazy and ask for Cam etc. I'm not for trading any of our core young players, or even guys like FVV or Brooks. Landale is a quality player and I'm very good with keeping him as well.
Our 3pt shooting is already sus, these proposals to give away one of few spacers we have in Whitmore, while still on that cheap rookie deal. One of the players paid with tank trauma. I like Rob but we're not that desperate. Still have Adams for this playoff run.
It was so difficult to watch when Adams sat out last game vs Detroit and Udoka had to play Landale in the 4th quarter over Sengun because Udoka was pissed at Sengun. Landale is not good enough for this team's aspirations and we need another backup big.
As much as I’d like them to acquire Williams, this team needs offense more than defense, so absolutely no to giving up Cam. Jock and seconds is a hard yes for me.
