Love all of these positive threads from "Rocket" fans after a huge win .. it makes my coffee taste sweeter and with more caffeine! ROCO BIATCH!!
For the playoffs Covington is 1st Defensive Rating 1st Defensive BPM 1st Defensive Win Shares 1st Steals 2nd Blocks
Covington had a great game last night. That said, I do hope Morey and D’Antoni learned something about the switch everything defensive philosophy from this series. When facing a team with three elite quick guards, you are going to have to mix up your defenses to include some man and zone alignments to better contain dribble penetration. Covington and Tucker are great defenders, but keeping guards like Paul, Schroder and Gilgeous-Alexander in front of them is a tough chore for bigger guys like them. Fortunately, only OKC has this type of personnel.
unfortunately they won't. that's just what the defense is. in 7 games, they never once adjusted the switch everything coverage, no matter which guard matchup was out there. but they did do a lot of mix/zone alignments specifically when dort was in the game. Which largely depended on when dort hit shots or not. but as far as the switch everything scheme, that remained constant. I was waiting for certain matchups game after game to not be switched but that never happened Said it before, a huge potential disadvantage in the opposing teams favor. If they want a certain matchup for the rockets, they can always get it by getting the switch. Whether the rockets side agree it's favorable or not doesn't really matter. The opposing team may not.
Dantoni helped roco not get that 6th. You know the thunder were trying to get that switch once he got the 5th. A 6th foul would have doomed us.
Love the passion, but you are incorrect here. Compare the game 7 film to the game 6 film - there were definite defensive adjustments to attempt to keep Eric Gordon on the main attacker much more than before. Sometimes the switch was forced, but it wasn't given up so easily like before. I give the coaching staff props for this between game adjustment.
Covington has really came up big for us in the last two games. I do wish he can make some layups though on drives
Eric Gordon main attacker? What does that have to do with defense and switch everything scheme that was never adjusted. okc continued to get whatever matchup they wanted. Whether they actually scored or not is an entirely different discussion. There was no adjustment
Again, love the passion, but you are incorrect in this instance. They tried to keep Eric Gordon defensively on the main attacker much more in game 7 than just accepting the screen switch as they did in game 6. I noticed it - doesn't mean it was always successful, but the strategy was an adjustment. It was also noticed on the Dunc'd On podcast (a great listen for NBA game analysis). It's a late adjustment as I think MDA is not so great at changes in-game, but between games, there are scheme changes implemented.
This is false. You're under the impression that every screen is meant for the offense to get the defense to actually switch. It isn't. It's just part of the action in sets to see how things unfold. Soft actions are basically bluffs to get various reads to see what opens up. When okc wanted to set hard screens to actually make the switch, it always happened. and anytime any team wants to get a switch, they'll get it
