    Rod Rosenstein gave his notice.

This means one of two things:

    A) He's caving to pressure like Sessions
    or
    B) Mueller's investigation is basically complete and he is no longer needed to protect it

Rosenstein is resigning as soon as Trump's new AG nominee is sworn in. Once that occurs, Rosenstein is out of the picture anyway.

It's amusing going back and reading tallanvor and Commodore's repeated dismissals of the investigation only to find they are wrong and then try to jump on a new line of argument and pretend the previous one never happened.

If you are a supporter of this administration just jump off the ship already. It's sinking, bow turned up to the sky, and the lifeboats are now few. Jump off the damn ship and find another conservative to support for 2020.

If I can add C) I think in this next phase Rosenstein knows that the final findings really need to be coming from someone that can be viewed by even Trump's base as un-spoiled & without contradiction. Especially with his involvement in the Comey firing & obstruction, I think he realizes him being the person to stand there and announce these final indictments or issue these reports would give opening for the President and his propaganda allies to make the findings about Rosenstein and not on the unlawful behavior.

So Rosenstein must be feeling pretty confident that Bill Barr will not step in the way of any reporting or indictments and cause a constitutional crisis. He knows with so many investigations and so much evidence in the court systems already, Bill Barr will almost surely have to follow through. Whitaker... I doubt he trusts which is why he smartly went to the White House a few months ago, and bought time.

    ......

Also - I think Trump will do what he does in situations like Mattis and when an official announces they are leaving in any given time, he under cuts them and forces them out the door much sooner than anticipated. With the Wall/Shutdown crap going on right now, I'm pretty sure he'll try to push out Rosenstein in the next couple days & really push Whitaker to do whatever he can before Barr's confirmation.

Just a hunch, but past is prologue with Trump.

If you could edit out the irrelevant posts you could turn this thread into an interesting book. The slow trickle of information. The absolute gradual moving of the goal posts to where they are now.

There is still more to be written also. Stay tuned mofo's*

I saw it reported that Rosenstein only intended to do this for two years and once Barr gets in place it would be natural for Barr to be allowed to name his own assistant AG.

This seems to be an even more interesting development...

Trump would fire his ass as soon as the new AG takes over ... because then he can.

Comey also gave his blessing to Barr as well. I'm not 100% confident he won't take measures to protect who he needs to, but the overwhelming support for Barr from guys like Comey, Rosenstein, & Muellers longterm relationship with Barr certainly makes you feel that he has a bit more credibility although he's still going to have a tough confirmation.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump seizes on Barr's relationship with Mueller if things don't go his way, or he pulls his nomination if he feels like he's too straight of an arrow.

This thread's going to be legendary to go back and read once everything has finally come out. Personally, I can't wait to go back and read Bobbythelackluster's "orange man do no wrong" hot takes.

I went back and read the first couple pages, and there are some gems in there from the usual suspects. But I’m waiting until this is wrapped up before I go back through the entire thread, so that it can be fully savored.
