You do understand, right, that it isn't Mueller granting himself these warrants. He applies to the court for a warrant with an argument for why it is appropriate and the court issues the warrant. Manafort's lawyers have argued to the court that the search is too broad, but the court does not seem to be persuaded. It seems to me that the 4th amendment guarantee of due process has been satisfied by Mueller going to the courts and getting these warrants. I don't think either of us are qualified to play armchair quarterback and say the warrants are inappropriately or unconstitutionally broad. But if they are, there is a process Manafort's lawyers can use there too to appeal to higher courts. Instead of smearing faceless Deep State agents with conspiracy theories, how about we see how much traction Manafort can actually find in the legal system.

What does it mean that raid is on a Mueller referral? A separate investigation? Mueller found something that seems helpful to the investigation into the Cohen's activities and referred to SD of NY... and if so.. that probably means Mueller is already quite deep into investigating Cohen's activities (as related to his primary case).

I think it means that Mueller is investigating his own thing, but found evidence to an unrelated crime, so he referred it to another prosecuting body.
