I think this is a great take on the people running the military and the country in those times. they sacrificed a generation to stop hitler whom they believed europe let have too much power to begin with. they didn't want to make that mistake again.
Joe Galloway's ,of the McClathy newspaper, op-ed on McNammara http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/v-print/story/71328.html
I tend to agree, if by kinder/gentler you mean 100's of times more evil and bloody. I agree with Joey Galloway. I put McNamara between Kissinger and Wilson in the most evil Americans ever category. I pray for mercy on his soul.
yeah, because we all know fighting in vietnam and fighting in Iraq is a comparable comparison when talking casualty rates. I mean war is exactly the same as it was forty years ago
Still need to see Fog of War, but the Obit is interesting. Funny, he seemed to learn the most important lesson in war an age old adage, know your enemy. it never fails, whether it be in sports or war. secondly, his first wife was the "reading is fundamental" creator.
I might have missed a post or two about it, but what put Woodrow Wilson on the most evil Americans list?
Same question here. The guy pretty much called and tried to prevent World War II. Sure, he single-handedly re-segregated the federal government and civil services, but he was a Southerner who came of age during Reconstruction, and I don't think anyone other than the American Communist Party was integrationist back then, not in golden age of eugenics. If there's anything American Experience and Wikipedia left out, Wes, feel free to elaborate.
