He has more support from Republicans than Democrats, so isn't his plan (if not to win) actually to help Biden win?

Doubtful... no maga type would ever not vote for trump. And I doubt many republicans would ever vote for a "kennedy". rfk's only chance for votes is with Democrats.

His favorability is over 30 points higher with republicans

    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/rfk-jr-democrat-republican-primary-favorability/

If the argument is he's doing 3rd party to tank a party's candidate, it looks like that would be the Republican candidate.

Not at all surprising. But this isn't about helping Trump win. That's immaterial here. It's the right move for a grifter.

I tend to agree with this. Now Cornell West… I think his candidacy as the Green Party nominee hurts Biden on the margins. Hopefully someone gets to him and talks some logic into his senses.

I'd imagine West's impact would be incredibly minuscule, RFK on the other hand is in the ear of quite a bit more people, specifically with his podcast campaign and presence inside of the Joe Rogan fan-type population of people, on top of having a household name. I could see him being the biggest 3rd party candidate since Perot

I'm very skeptical of the +30 point favorability he has with Republicans. To better gauge his genuine popularity within the Republican ranks, he would need to switch to the Republican Party and actively participate in their primary elections. This would help determine how much of his support comes from those who only favor him because he opposes Biden. I don't know how much of his support among Republicans is due to that, but I think it's probably pretty large, as evidenced by contributions to his campaign by big-name Republican donors who backed Trump.

    -----

Filings released on Monday by the Kennedy-aligned American Values 2024 super PAC shed new light on the candidate's popularity with people with conservative leanings.

The super PAC, which can support Kennedy with outside advertising and other spending but cannot directly coordinate with him, raised a total of $9.7 million through the end of June.

Almost all of that sum, 96%, came from two megadonors, one of them with a history of donating to Republicans: $5 million, more than 50% of the group's total receipts for the first half of the year, was given by Timothy Mellon, heir to the Mellon banking fortune, who previously gave more than $20 million to a super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump during the 2020 election cycle.

Who would have thought the conspiracy theorist anti-vaxxer would pull votes away from the other conspiracy theorist anti-vaxxer.

in announcing that he will run as an Independence, RFK Jr. declared "We declare independence from the two political parties,"
"I haven't made this decision lightly," he said at a rally in Philadelphia. "It is very painful for me to let go of the party of my uncles, my father."

RFK Jr.'s independent run for president draws GOP criticism and silence from national Democrats
reflecting growing concerns on the right that
the former Democrat now threatens to take votes from former President Donald Trump in 2024.

It is interesting how many, mainly in the Right, talk about a uniparty”. Running in lockstep. All you have to do
Is look at the House to see how much of a “uniparty” there is.

NYT released 5 state polls yesterday (GA/WI/NV/PA/MI) with RFJ polling around 20% in all of them

That's a big chunk for an independent
