Glad you guys are OK.........at least physically.

Thinking about it..........that is some REALLY scary stuff.

Especially now that I have a kid.............and live in Pearland.

Well, I would think he could find a way to take the cash that didn't end up a bloody mess. I guess I wasn't being clear - the fact that someone would want cash is not shocking, it was just the fact that he chose the most violent way possible.

Also, he knew about the location of the cash, because we were about to put down a deposit and rent for a new place. I was going to give him the money to write a check (At the time I had no bank account - I was an independent IT consultant/drummer that worked for cash)

Get an alarm and a large dog. Even if the dog won't do anything except bark (and that's all 99% of them will do) it's still a huge visual deterrent.

Not sure we're going to get much about him. My friend replied back that she doubts anyone would recall him. How did you come to know this guy, anyway?

We both worked at Olive Garden when I first moved to Houston back in 94. I figured that nobody would remember the guy after almost 20 years - he didn't seem to keep in contact with his high school friends.

You should ask your friend to call him "Brett". Long story, but we learned that Brett was the alias he would use when trying to pick up underage girls on the internet (as you can see, really classy guy)

Edit: Anyone that worked at Cheesecake Factory or On the Border (Westheimer and 610) in the 90's would know this guy.

    Glad your okay, bud.

Hope they try coming into this house in Pearland, they would look like swiss cheese by the time they crawled out of here.

But...that probably wouldnt happen because the particular neighborhood I live in has not had a break-in in over 10 years.

Guns lead to more violence...doesn't do anybody any good. If people didn't have easy access to guns in the 1st place, it wouldn't be an issue.

I did a speech on gun control before, and compared to other big countries in the world, the US has MANY MORE deaths by guns than many other countries in the world by a lot. ITs not even close, with the exception of countries that have a lot of crime due to drugs/religeous and political "wars"

I know some people will still get access to guns, and unfortunately violence is just a part of this world we live in, BUT we can minimize the amount of people who are killed by civilians being able to get their hands on guns.

Imagine having 10s of thousands of deaths per year to less than 80 per year as there are in some big countries like Japan and England.

Look at the graph on this page...tells you everthing you need to know...
    http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum4/12894.html

These 2 links are some other stats on international gun deaths by country

    http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=6166

    http://www.allcountries.org/gun_deaths_by_country.html

To get rid of violence and crime...you must get rid of the source, not bring in more resources for violence...that will just continue the cycle of neverending violence in this country.

Doesn't make any sense to bring in more of the things (guns) that cause the violence, does it??

The first link with th graph shows that the countries with their residents having the least amount of firearms in their homes have virtually no gun deaths...

Think about that and ask why do we still continue to allow ANYBODY to have a gun??

The guy who committed the shooting at Virginia Tech bought his gun online!! There were no back ground checks, even thuogh he had been previously in a mental hospital before.

The answer is to stop allowing civillians access to guns...I know thats easier said than done, but all we have to do is increase the penalty for carrying a gun period, unless you are cop on duty or a part of a military branch.

The issue isn't to eliminate gun murders, but murders period. The knife murder rate in England shot way up when they outlawed guns. Recently, they outlawed big scary knives. I don't know if there is information that it has lowered the knife death rate, but if it does, I assume they will need to move on to outlawing heavy rocks, or big sticks.

While I concede your point, I would much rather take my chances with a big rock wielding robber.

In the US, the numbers show that there is no difference in violent crimes in states that have loose gun control vs those with strict gun control. Compare Colorado (allows open carry) vs New York (almost no one can carry). There are way too many variables for any conclusion to be made. Japan has very few gun crimes. True. But look at their culture and compare it with ours. American kids somehow have the idea that being a gangster makes you cool.

But yeah. Ban our guns. What will we do with criminals in Mexico who are very capable of trafficking guns from countries we don't have control over. see MS13

We hear it all the time. Laws, including gun laws, are only abided by law abiding citizens. Do you think criminals get guns legally. Do you think criminals will put their guns away before making their way into you house?

I agree, but overall, the crimes would go down...I'm not saying people wouldn't suffer from it.

How is it that in India in China (countries surrounded by war torn countries) with 1 billion people have less gun crimes than the US.

As far the states having different gun control laws....thats a problem, all you have to do is go to another state.

guns coming in from Mexico would be an issue, but I think the problem started a lont time ago...is it really that hard to ban guns??

Its America's obsession with guns that make it difficult. When a mental patient can buy a gun online and shoot up a college campus...does that not scare you a lil bit?? (Virginia Tech shooting) or 2 high school kids can shoot up a high school cuz they were picked on (Columbine)etc.

Guns have the ability to protect, but when they lead to more crimes...who and what is it really protecting?

Look at all the kids who die by playing with their parents guns, accidents happen when people are trigger happy thinking somebody is robbing them, people dying in holiday celebrations, etc.

To get rid of violence, you need to get rid of the source of violence.

The police and the army are paid and trained to shoot guns...we as civilians are not...I'm never going to own a gun anyways, so I'll take my chances with fewer amounts of people having access to guns.

bigbodymoe I don't know you but I'm glad it turned out the way it did with no one getting physically hurt. It must be a horrible feeling having the worry of your family getting hurt while the whole thing is going down.

Wow. You could outlaw guns, there is still a black market. :) Criminals can get guns either way.
