Hey codell, what did Tommy do back then? Either I was too young or not paying attention in '86. I didn't learn to hate Lasorda until the '88 WS.

BTW PhiSlammaJamma, from http://www.retrosheet.org/, Deshaies, Ryan, and Scott had 35 K's between them over those three days (9/23 - 9/25).

After Deshaies 8 straight K's, he pinch hit for the pitcher in the 3rd inning to make getting number 9 a bit harder.

great find derrock, check out the lines

    Deshaies: 9 innings, 10k, 2 hits, 0 runs
    Ryan: 8 innings, 12 k, 1 hit, 0 runs
    Scott: 9 innings, 13k, 0 hits, 0 runs

Even better than I remember. That's just sick. 3 hits and 35k's in three consecutive games in the heat of a pennant race.

The Big Bopper and his perm get no love.

However, I honestly can not think of a better #2 choice at 1B than Glenn. Hmmmmmmmm

Very surprised to see Mike Hampton as the #1SP. May as well put Jose Lima and Mark Portugal on the list.

Codell, both you and Bob are showing no love whatsoever for Casey Candaele, who I can say, without hyperbole, was quite possibly the greatest Astro ever.

Candaele wasn't half the player that Andy Stankiweicz was. Or Jim Pankovits for that matter.

    Blasphemer!!!

Did Stanky or Panky (sorry, I'm using my new Acme brand Milo Hamilton Nickname Generator, only 3 easy payments of $19.95, call today!) ever run the bases at Wrigley after a rainout wearing only a jockstrap (on his head)? Did they? Huh?

    Didn't think so.

    GAME SET MATCH.
    THANKS FOR PLAYING.
    CASE CLOSED.
    ROOKIE.

I waited for 6 hours at a local card show with my mom to get the bopper's autograph when I was about 7 years old. I loved the guy and it's nice to talk about the old astros teams. I still have that baseball in a plastic case.

There used to be a website called "Put JD in the Hall", but it's gone now. Here's an article about the whole situation:

You know what the sad part about Casey is? His mother is probably a better hitter than he was(and also a better base stealer):D

In 1987 the spunky, 5'9" Candaele played six positions and finished fourth in NL Rookie of the Year balloting. His teammates had a pool to guess the date of his first home run; it came on July 19, and was the shortest ever to clear the fence at Olympic Stadium. A special yellow seat was set in the first row of bleachers to mark the shot. The switch-hitter was later demoted and traded to Houston in mid-1988. His most productive season came in 1991 when he played in a career-high 151 games for the Astros while hitting .262 with four home runs and 50 RBIs. After being out of baseball for two years, Candaele resurfaced briefly a reserve for the Indians' division-winning squads in 1996 and 1997. Casey's mother, Helen Callahan St. Aubin, played in the professional All American Girls Baseball League of 1942-1954 and had 354 steals in 388 games.
