17. Juarez..I would avoid that place. I went there 2 summers ago for a mission trip. It is shady and somewhat dangerous if you are a tourist. It is a border town.
Can't see everything. Some things will have to wait for another time. Also, it's very likely we'll be living in Alberta at some point during the next 10 years, so it will be easy to hit up then. That's the reason we aren't making a point of going up to the Rockies on this trip. I'm hoping to do it for a bit less than $6000 between the two of us. If it takes a grand or so more, no biggie. Gotta live life.
Yeah, I think we just plan on doing a quick cross over for an hour or two to do some shopping, and just so we can say that we've been into Mexico and cross it off our world map.
you are not going to Wisconsin? OMG!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! head over the Green Bay. check out the Packers. pass Madison on your way. one of the few student unions that serve beer. enjoy your beer on the laker front union.
Is there a reason you're going to Eureka, CA? That's kind of a blue collar town. Its sister town of Arcata is much nicer, but what you would really want to do is hit the beaches just north in Trinidad, CA. Also...why not stop in Austin and swim in the Pedernales River? If you're in Houston the weekend of April 19th you can attend International Festival and see some cool bands (Grupo Fantasma on Sat.) Also some good Reggae shows in Austin that weekend. There are some very cool springs in Florida outside of Gainesville, but I can't remember the names (WeekiWatchee, Rainbow, Homosassa? I don't know) Also, Taos, NM is very nice, close to Santa Fe. On the way to Yellowstone, consider stopping in Sandpoint or cutting through Central Idaho, Stanley and the Sawtooth Mnts. I worked at Redfish Lake one summer ten years ago. Beautiful and free camping in the area. Pick some sagebrush and burn it as incense all the way to Chicago. The smell of that stuff is heaven.
Fadeaway, where is your starting point? Is it somewhere close to Jamestown, New York. Looks it on the map... I'm thinking Pittsburgh.
You can't plan that sort of trip and skip Colorado. Coors Field right in front of the mountains is a beautiful place to see a ballgame if you're a baseball fan. Gotta see Denver, Pike's Peak, and the Royal Gorge... beautiful beautiful scenery.
this guy couldnt be more right, the alamo is very unimpressive. Altho id have to say it might be more exciting than the spurs.
We are hitting Colorado, sort of. Our route takes us to Mesa Verde, which is in the southwest corner of Colorado. Mesa Verde seems like a cool place. Our starting point is Hamilton, Ontario. We don't plan on actually stopping in Eureka or anything. I just plugged it into Mappoint for route-plotting purposes because the gf really wants to drive up the northern Cali coastline. Hehe.. I'd like to hit up Green Bay for a tour of Lambeau. Depends on how tired we are on the home stretch.
awesome trip, only suggestions I would make is Skip "O" in Las Vegas and go see the Beatles "Love" show instead. Also you're going to be pretty close to Vancouver, why not head out there as well - its really a beautiful city
The view from the top of Mt Evans is incredible but the road to the top doesn't open till Memorial Day!
You're going to drive every day? Stop and smell the roses. skip some of the less interesting spots and spend more time in the more interesting ones. Seems like driving hundreds of miles almost every day might become stressful. Also seems like you won't have time to enjoy most of the spots your visiting.
LOL... we aren't driving every day. That's crazy talk. We'll be stopping along the way to spend extra time whenever and wherever we feel like it. Just booked a river rafting weekend camping/rafting trip in Oak Hill, West Virginia. Pretty psyched about that! 2 nights camping + 1 day river rafting + breakfasts + lunch + BBQ party with free drinks for only $85 per person. That's a pretty awesome deal. We will just happen to be around there for their opening ice-breaker weekend party. Good timing. http://www.raftinginfo.com/plan/about-us.php
