1.) Never had a problem with AOL, the minute i get Time Warner nothing works. I'm basing it on my own personal experience. I don't care if you like AOL or not, it worked fine for me.

Your missing the point, i was more than willing to pay the 60 bucks, yet they now want to tack on an 80 hardware charge. I CANT format it until they do that, so i'm just going to do it myself i guess.

Is SP2 worth it? I just reformatted yesterday and have never done the SP2 thing (unless it did it automatically, I haven't checked yet). I remember all the bad things people were saying when it first came out. What am I missing?

My parents have the same problem.

What do you do to fix it?

AOL more than likely made your pc proprietary :D

My sister had a problem with cable and XP SP2 although it is working now you may try disabling the firewall or uninstalling SP2 altogether. RR tech support suggested that to her, I told her to call them back and demand their work with SP2, you may try uninstalling SP2 as a temporary fix but I would stay on their ass even if it did work with SP1. Good luck and AOL sucks!

Unplug the modem for at least 10 seconds then restart the computer. I think all of Time Warner's solutions begin with unplug the modem/box/etc.

They suck. I stopped getting bills from them and ended up with a $290 bill. I went in and paid it and asked the women behind the counter why I wasn't receiving bills, she said she had no idea after looking at my account. I paid the next one on my own by going into the store, sans bill. I asked the guy sitting behind the counter why I wasn't receiving bills and he had no idea after looking at my account. I get a $435 bill in the beginning of May, so I call them quite upset. Turns out, I paid my first bill online so that meant I stopped receiving monthly bills. They claimed that they sent e-mails to my address whenever a bill was due, but I never saw them. I also asked them why the two people at the stores couldn't tell me this when I asked them why I wasn't receiving bills. She said she didn't know and that they couldn't credit me at all. I'm switching back to the Dish or DirecTv once I move. Bastards.

I have had twc rr for 3 years and I pay online. The cable has only gone out on me one time during the tropical storm. I love it. Downloads are fast, the uploads are slow but whatever.

this sounds like DNS issues to me. anybody know an alternate DNS, perhaps uunet or something, he could plug in instead of using the DNS settings his router gives him?

If you are nore than a novice user and know how to keep yourself safe with anti-virus software, firewalls, spyware removers, etc. then it's not completely necessary.

If any of that is mumbo jumbo to you, download and install immediately. It's best feature is the security center, which lets people know if their firewall is activated, if their anti-virus definitions are up to date, and easily setup automatic updates.

Seeing as how you have a high speed connection, I'd suggest just dowmloading it anyway. There were several problems at first, but things have been ironed out now and installing cna do nothing but potetnitally help you out. It should take about 2 hours total, and you can just come and go as it does it's thing.

Download and installing it is very slow and a pain in the ass. It's much quicker if you can get a SP2 disk. I got one from best Buy for free, and I use it when work on friends computers. I even slipstreamed it onto a cd-r witht he XP installation files just to save myself even more time.

try changing your DNS setting to 198.6.1.2

    Do this:

-right click the start button-->Choose Explore
-right click My Network Places-->Choose Properties
-right click your network connection--> Choose Properties
-in the resulting dialog box, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click "Poperties"
-Click the radio button for "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter 198.6.1.2
    -click ok, and ok.
Do not change your IP address or any other settings.

open your browser, hopefully you're using Firefox, and empty its cache. try browsing to a popular website.

    Do you have a router?

When I lived in Houston and had RoadRunner, I had problems for a few weeks with internet service going down and not coming back up. I even had TW techs come over and they said the signal was fine. I fixed the problem by having the router release DHCP lease and then renewing the DHCP lease.

Sometimes there are menus you can access through a browser from the cable modem. Try going through FireFox or IE to http://192.168.0.1 and see if anything pops up.

Ok, i promise this is the last thing i need help on. I'll leave you guys alone if i can get this resolved. As we speak i am typing on a computer with a 100mhz processor. Why, you ask? Because my HP isn't working at all.

I didn't have a recovery cd so i did the built in "non destructive" recovery HP offers. Everything went smoothly. It finished and it took me to the blue Windows XP registration screen. It asked me if i hear the music they were playing, etc... Well i get to the end of it where it just says "Finish" and it just sits there. It won't load the desktop. I've tried running in safemode and it just comes up with an error than reboots.

The last time i did this non destructive recovery it did the same exact thing. I took it up to Best Buy and it literally took a minute to fix it. This time around all the older computer guys are gone replaced by these kids known as the "Geek Squad" and they don't crap.

Does anyone know a way to override that registration screen? I don't care how it runs at this point, i just want access to it. Thanks in advance.

    Well that kind of sucks.

I'm back in Austin now, but I have Roadrunner at my house in Houston and have had troubles with it. We use the Apple Airport Express as a WAP and it was working fine while I was in Houston. When I got back from school, it wouldn't connect, and even a direct link was running horrendously slow (they had me run the testmy.net thing, and it was 1.54% of the average RR speed...ya think there's a problem??). They assured me it was a defective modem and switched it out. Didn't help.

Anways, I finally put two and two together, knowing my laptop is bugfree, having tried 4 different ethernet cords, and being on a 2nd modem, the only possibility was on their end. I tried plugging in the cable modem into a cable jack on the other side. Back up to running full speed. Since we use a WAP, it's at least workable, but it's kind of a pain we have to deal with a weaker wireless signal because we have the modem in a random room.

I wish companies would examine themselves in their tech support instead of insisting on other things. When I mentioned slow loading, one of the tech guys said "oh, you probably just need more RAM". My laptop runs on a gig of a RAM. Uh yeah, don't think that's the problem.
