Agreed. My guess is this problem stems from AOL somehow. I'd completely uninstall it and then see if your able to connect thru IE.
With AOL-roadrunner your connection is not "always on". You have to connect to AOL first using AOL's software and browser (the one that says "Hello" and "you've got mail" when you log in). After you connect to AOL you will then be able to access the internet with both AOL's browser and internet explorer. Also, there are many issues specifically with serivce pack 2 and AOL. If you could uninstall that you may have better luck.
I assumed he just got Roadrunner, and was keeping his AOL account active. Maybe the Time Warner people thought he wanted AOL-Roadrunner (is there a difference b/t this and regular roadrunner... I dunno).... and they screwed up.
speaking of time warner cable and road runner (and how they suck)... last night during this bad storm in houston my cable got VERY fuzzy.. my internet also floundered off and died.. i thought it was my wireless router again, so i called netgear techsupport.. i think the problem though was my cable signal being all staticy.. if your cable signal is hazy, does that affect your internet? anyone have any experiencces with this?
Thanks, i'll try that stuff when i get home later. In regard to the AOL-Roadrunner, i made it perfectly clear that we were paying $44.95 a month for roadrunner (Internet Explorer) not AOL roadrunner. They know that now. We are just keeping our AOL account active (Email, etc..)
Everybody should go to someplace like GoDaddy.com and register your own domain name and set up your own email address (i.e. giddyup@yourname.com) so you don't have issues like this. Instead you just change your forwarding destination of your email to whichever ISP you use. You can then change providers as often as you like and you won't lose email. I've been with RoadRunner for about 6-7 years. They are great. I have a problem occasionally but it gets resolved quickly. .02
Strange. I've had Roadrunner for several years and have never had a problem that wasn't quickly dealt with. You are really having some bad luck! Hang in there. I guess you've "gone up the food-chain" with them. I don't know why AOL would affect anything, but I've never had it. Guess I fall into the Jeff and R2K camp. No problems with them worth mentioning. I agree that the tech shouldn't have left without everything working. That's inexcusable.
I used to work for Time Warner here in Charlotte, so I can help you with this. If your pic is fuzzy, you are losing signal. And, yes, it can affect your RoadRunner. Your signal has to be within certain paramters, as well as your signal back on the return path. Also, you can have packet loss issues if the signal is not right, or if there is too much of a signal drop somewhere in the line. With it happening when it rains, sounds like their might be a crack or water damage in the line somewhere.
That's what happened to me. Time Warner had to come out and install an amplifier in my attic. All is well now.
i called time warner and i guess since it's memorial day i couldn't get anybody to help me. the signal is still fuzzy, but it's not as bad as it was and my internet is back. i can still tell a difference though, and there is obviously something wrong.
I'd have to agree with a few others here...please just junk AOL, clean it out of your life, and go with a regular TW install. Roadrunner is costly, but I must admit the speed is impressive and the service has been, so far for me, smooth.
My roadrunner goes out at least three times a week. I call and they give me the same solution everytime, so I don't even bother to call anymore. Time Warner blows ass.
One other thing to check is your DNS settings. Click Start - Run, and a black command prompt should appear. Type ipconfig /all, write down your IP address and DNS settings, and then either post them here or email me through the board and I will send you my cell phone number. I got RoadRunner recently and my computer was set for manual DNS servers and I had to set it for automatic. If you just want ot try to set it to automatic, right click My Network Places, click Properties, highlight TCP/IP, click Properties. Your settings should be automatic for both the IP address and DNS server settings.
BTW, my suggestion is to get a Gmail or Hotmail, or Yahoo email address for everyone in your house and then your email addy will never change when you change ISPs.
Call and demand that someone take care of it. Have them check the integrity of all the cables from the box to your cable modem. I have had a few problems with TW, but I credit them with wanting to resolve the issue and they were always polite. Once you get it fixed, see if they can credit your account. They gave me all sorts of free stuff when I had a cable box issue. Good luck
If this isn't resolved i will. I'll tell them to fix it or i'm leaving them for good. Thanks Andymoon. I have actually gone through those steps, everything is set at Automatic. Time Warner had me in the command prompt quite a bit. I'm about to head out the door to get my computer reformatted. It's had some issues lately, and uninstalling the windows service pack 2 didn't help it. I'll let yall know how it goes once everything is wiped off.
Having to veer off topic somewhat so here it is. Best Buy has decided to raise its level of gouging the customer. Rather than paying the $60 bucks to reformat/reinstall windows (which is already pretty high) they now charge a mandatory 80 dollars to check your hardware, meaning it would cost a whopping 140 bucks. I could buy an XP cd myself and do it for just about the same price. With that said, do any of you know of any computer repair places in the Barker Cypress/1960/Jones Road area that would be willing to do a reformat/reinstall for 60 bucks or less, without this mandatory hardware charge? If i'm unable to find someone i'll have to order a cd from HP, which i'd rather avoid if at all possible.
Places like Newegg and Directron will sell you OEM Windows XP Home or Pro CD's for around $150. This way you can do the reinstall yourself when you need to. I would reccommend just picking up the CD's and redoing your computer yourself, it saves you money in the long run, and plus you get some first hand experience on how to do it. Luckily, when i was at school i bought those CD's for $5 as a student discount. As for places to go, you might wanna look up a MicroCenter or a local computer shop.
This thread is killing me. Homeboy is rocking AOL and has a Hootie & The Blowfish link in hig sig. Are you running Windows 3.X? $60 is completely reasonable for a format/reinstall. Even when everything goes smoothly, you're still looking at about 3-4 hours to format, install, and update. It's even worse if you don't have a SP2 disk and have to download/install that.
