In having heard him speak a few times on the radio and tv. He does come off like a surfer who's smoked a few too many cones. Maybe that might've given scouts and GMs the wrong idea?

Don't worry, he will make up for it with his hustle, shooting touch and intelligence... like most white players.

On a similar note, I heard there were no Mexicans in the league because the game is too fast for them... who really knows, just thought I would throw it out there

This. It is not because he is white. It is because he seems laid back.

Budinger looks like he listens to The Beach Boys. That he smokes that good weed. That he has the vertical of Matt Bullard as well as the shot. That his ancestors were indentured Irish slaves. That he surfs often, that he knows where the end of the rainbow is.

And of course he ends up on the St. Pattys Rockets promos.

    Sarcasm noted.

That was just my observation man, and obviously not every "white" player is like that. Just like not every "black" player is athletic. Some of them aren't athletic and relies on hustle, shooting touch, and intelligence too.

I'm wasn't trying to be racist

Like I said, Chase Budinger is the black Joe Johnson. Most people don't understand it, but it's true.

Your right. The knock on him that he was too laid back and considering where he is from, its understandable.

Bud needs to understand that there have been plenty of "brothers" picked where he was picked and didn't have the skin excuse

Racial stereotypes do nothing to further us as a society. Zero. What's funny is that we tend to readily accept any perceived "good" stereotype as complimentary -- and it's really not. Because as soon as we open that door it means we also have to take the bad with the good.

Here's the thing about stereotypes: It tends to culturally-limit us for generations. If white children grow up thinking they don't belong in certain sports or not able to perform in certain ways (say, for instance, dancing, R&B singing, etc..) then we're potentially missing out on a huge pool of talent because we've already decided that those things "aren't their place". And many of those kids will accept that and never even attempt to pursue those avenues.

If we tell our black children that certain occupations, goals, or dreams are off-limits then, again, we're missing out on potential genius simply because of our intellectual laziness to think beyond the paradigms we're so comfortable with.

When things are too easy, many times it means our way of looking at it is flawed. As in, we're not thinking past our nose. It's myopic. And limiting. But a lot of us do it because it's simple, easy, and sorta makes sense to us. That's where these racial stereotypes fail us -- they don't serve any purpose other than to reinforce societal barriers. And that's sad.

I wish it was like a big-ass Etch-A-Sketch that we could just shake and start over clean, but unfortunately I just don't see it.

All things considered - subject matter, user name, "length" of post - this could be the post of the decade.

Speaking of race, I remember thinking in high school that I want to be the first Asian in the league, then friggin sucky Wang Zhi Zhi came to Dallas.

I remember in elementary a lot of my friends wanted to be professional soccer players or NBA players... I laughed at them then. Probably would still be laughing if I didn't move away. I understand where Chase's elementary friends are coming from. What are the chances of your buddy making the NBA? 0.001%.

Oh and all kids are racist. They don't know any better.

    LoL

I've said that many times, about the same time (plus or minus) you did too.

    Amen brotha!

He's more athletic than Joe though ;)

The NBA has been holding the white man down long enough.

To be absolutely honest, Africans are more well built biologically. The stereotype comes from the fact that whites are compared with blacks all the time. Compared to blacks, a lot of white people do appear to lack the athletism.
