Curious to hear what you guys think are some of the best rivalries are, especially being in a different part of the country than me. With all the re-alignment, I'm hopefully we can keep a lot of the best ones alive. Feel free to include any FCS or HBCU rivalries; or even rivalries that you remember fondly or wish could be re-ignited. For me in no particular order any list has: - Ohio State Michigan - Georgia Florida - Iron Bowl - Egg Bowl - Texas Oklahoma - Army-Navy The last one is always fun because it's the only game on TV. The crazy playbooks, the traditions, and the fact that it transcends regionalism because of what both schools represent. I'd go as far to say it's the best rivalry in college sports.
I've always been fond of intra-city rivalries, because it's so visceral, plus they're kinda rare. Damn, lock this thread Donny has us all beat. I actually almost included 100 Miles of Hate, but figured no one would know about MTSU (I briefly dated a girl who's family practically founded the school). I wish UGA had a physical item in the rivalry. Also there are three separate "battle of the bells". The Seminole war canoe, and all of the ties between FSU and the tribe is something special. Ugh, only a little over a month. My weekends are so dull without football (although my grades do go up in the spring)
Anyway, are there any fake rivalries? IMO South Carolina's rivalry with both Clemson and UGA feel kind of forced. Air Force Academy is lame and doesnt inspire the same feud with the other service academies. William & Mary claims to be rivals with Richmond, but I dont think Richmond cares that much.
TAMU tried to pretend like it had some kind of juice going against LSU during Thanksgiving holidays. Texas Tech vs anyone is fake. Arkansas vs anyone is fake.
Arkansas claims the Longhorns as a big rival. Rutgers claims Penn State to the point "**** Penn State" is a common chant at games; but I dont think Penn State fans not from NJ know Rutgers exists
Now THIS is really funny. I got over the Stros moving to the AL, and now I like it, so I assume the same will happen eventually with the Confederacy Conference.
You gonna LOVE the SEC! They should make the UT/TAMU game like the OU/UT one. But instead of the winning state owning the river, UT/TAMU game dictates if abortions are allowed or banned for that year. Biggest game of the year, every year, outside of the Super Bowl. Don't @ me.
It's fantastic. The food is great, the dedicated TV channels are great. Baseball and softball are really competitive for some reason.
