1. This is the standard stuff front office people have always leaked to the media, particularly about Morey. There has always been leaks about how Morey overvalues his players in trade talks. 2. Some people said Morey was delusional in thinking Harden would be an elite #1 star for a team or that he had a chance to sign Dwight Howard or rebuild without tanking. 3. It sounds like this "GM" wants/needs Asik but is upset that Morey wouldn't trade him for something like Robin Lopez or Sam Dalembert or Jason Smith plus a top 20 protected 1st round pick. So, he is now venting to the media. 4. Asik's "demeanor" has changed quite a bit in the last couple of games.
Asik's value is diminishing fast as time goes by. 8 mil cap is not big deal. But if he wants out then basically the worst thing Morey should do is keep Him till contract expireing.
Asik is playing a position (center) which is highly desirable by most teams & it's also a position that is over paid by almost all teams. Whoever this GM (Cuban) is need to STFU
Samuel Dalembert or Kosta Koufas, plus a second round pick. Either that or a lottery pick (in which case Rox lose for the next 2 years but win 4 or 5 years from now with maybe a young star)
Not really. Asik has 0 leverage. That is the thing a lot of people don't understand. The rest of the league already knows what Asik has to offer at the minimum and that is a double-double starting center on any team that doesn't already have a top 5 center. How many centers are better than Asik? Howard, Gasol, Hibbert, Jefferson, and maybe Noah. Bynum and Bogut are too when healthy, but lets be realistic... that never happens.
At this point in time, it is basically a negotiation game. Rockets start out by trying to get everything they want and the other side tries to offer as little as possible. Assuming the difference can be bridged, negotiations start. Otherwise, we move on.
This GM's comments are irrelevant. In the free market, you don't need to sell at the price that everyone thinks is fair, all you need to do is sell at the price that Someone thinks is fair. It's not like there's a ready supply of Omer Asik's coming off an assembly line. All it takes is ONE team looking to make a desperation trade and that price tag becomes very reasonable. Morey's no dummy. He's not trying to sell Asik at a "fair" price, he's looking to sell Asik at the BEST price. That might be below what he wants, or it might be above what he's looking for now. All that we need to know is that Morey will work to get the best deal that's out there.
Odd argument...I mean come on guys, you know what his point was. The $15M Asik gets paid next yr should not matter as much to a GM since usually it is the cap that restricts their actions. But as some have astutely pointed out, some cheap owners don't want to pay that extra amount out of pocket, which is fine, and limits Morey's pool of options. That being said, I never really like the whole ":rolls eyes: oh so you're the one paying the $7M out of pocket now?" argument. It should be relative to how much the owners make. As much as they have a right to make a profit, I'm just saying, context matters in setting up this loaded hypo.
Cap space means money. The whole reason you don't want to pay guys above the cap space is because you are literally multiplying their salary. For every dollar you spend over the cap, you pay a 1.5x - 4.5x penalty. Omer being paid $15 million on a $8 million cap hit, might as well mean Omer automatically comes with a 2x tax penalty. This is assuming you think Omer is worth $8 million. Cap space isn't some mini-game. In the end it's all about the money.
Really??? You think Asik is better than Vucevic, and Brook Lopez, and Tyson Chandler, and Antonio Davis, and Pekovic, and Valanciunus?? Also I'd say Gortat and JaVale McGee, and Saunders, and Pachulia are about at Asik's level, plus they don't whine. Robin Lopez is a better scorer and shot blocker than Asik; and he too does not whine. That guy on San Antonio isn't too bad either.
Asik is better than most of these names on your list, some by a huge margin. You people were the ones questioning Morey for signing 3 pt 5 rebound career backup Omer to a starting C contract in the first place. Fools.
