Some of the latest forecast models include the loop they were first predicting. But, most predicting the storm will stall in extreme northeastern Texas or southwestern Arkansas. KTRK is not the station to be watching for forecasting. The reality is that that kind of demonsrative change in track is nearly impossible to forecast.
Left Pasadena to Dallas at 21:30 on Wednesday. Got to Huntsville at 22:00 on Thursday. Decided to come back after one of our cars was left with a 1/4 tank of gas, and after my uncle saw someone try and blow up a gas station when they weren't allowed to get gas. Found shelter in Stafford, took me an hour to get here. So, I evacuated the evacuation of Hurrican Rita. And I feel A LOT safer. The drive back for the people who left will probably be as ugly as it was to get where they went, worried about family who reached their destination.
My lights in Katy are starting to flash on and off EDIT- Anyone know if this is the most viewed thread ever in the Hangout? 31,000 views
I think that the news coverage is a big part of the reason for all of the problems associated with this storm. Well, that and the unfortunate fat that it was so recently after Katrina. People heard the weather guys and saw images of New Orleans' hopelessness and overreacted. In the past, with no Katrina, people in Galveston and low lying areas would bail to high ground and the rest of Houston would board up windows, stock up on h2o, say some prayers and tough it out just like we always do. People in Houston and Conroe and freaking HUNTSVILLE would not head to Dallas. But because of Katrina and the fact that the newspeople are so melodramatic and have to make everything sound so sensational, people feared for their lives and left town en masse. The recap of this oatgay uckfay will be amazing. That being said tune in to SportsRadio 610 for some interesting KAtrina hyperbolization and conversation.
ANyone in or around the Sharpstown area? I heard that earlier today they got heavy rain/wind and that power was out. I don't see how that is possible. ANyone know or, at least, know how to find out. News has said nothing about it so what I heard is most likely wrong, but wanted a little confirmation.
If anyone is watching Fox News, Shepard Smith is really taking a beating in Beaumont. Earlier he actually tripped and fell and now he is getting pounded with intense winds.
just saw it on cnn ... large fire in downtown galveston. dayuuum. with the wind, no rain (now), it looks horrible. hope nobody gets hurt.
Whoa. I didn't realize that the "Bus Stop" thread had beaten out Lindsey Lohan. Congrats Chad, even if you made it all up. The "T-mac to Houston" thread is still the king of the entire bbs however.
I cancelled my Dishnetwork Top-60 programming package a week ago. The only national TV where I can watch Rita now is MSNBC and I hate the current host (I spare mentioning his name here). Great job by DoD in the other thread to let Clutch Fans in Houston to share their experiences. I have a office mate who left for Houston a week ago to visit his sister there. Still haven't heard from him today. Kinda make me worried.
Nothing is going on. Rita was a complete dud for the vast majority of Houston. Not so for the coastal areas though.
Well, they are saying that as the hurricane moves inland, the winds will get higher, say around 50 mph. Houston could start feeling these wind speeds in 3 to 5 hours. Tomorrow is the day that the inland part of Houston will feel it the most I think.
Anybody in any part of Houston right now that's RAINING?? beside just windy? I'm surprise that there's not thunder storm rain and is already 11:30pm where u at RITA???
