For everyone in the Dallas -Comcast cable viewing area...

On channel 38, or wherever TXCN broadcasts-
they are now simulcasting KHOU channel 11 from Houston...

    -Houston Transtar traffic cams
    -Radar
    -storm tracl predictions/updates
-where to drive, which lanes are open, etc.

recent wobbles have it goin west again...

Also, if you are able to get as far as the San Jacinto Mall (if you are on that side of town) by 11:15 AM they are shuttling people to a shelter further inland... anything is better than losing your life!

One official said, "if you're planning to stay, please write your social security number on your arm in indelable/permanent ink." :(

1 in 3 chance for Freeport/Galveston landfall according to Ch. 11
    1 in 3 chance for Port Arthur/Beaumont

    ..within 18-24 hours...

"blockbuster storm" with several intense tornado filled thunderstorms for a 150 mile wide swath of wherever it hits according to ch. 11...

    Be careful everybody!

Thankfully they estimate 90% of Galveston is evacuated.

Just saw the asst. director for the national hurricane center on Ch2. He said as of now they are still forecasting the center of the storm to strike east of Galveston. Also said that any shift of as little as 50 miles to the west could really change things for our area as far as storm surge is concerned.

A few of the models now are bringing the track back closer to Galveston. Now the National Weather Service is saying landfall would hit around 6 in the morning, according to ch 2.

The hurricane force winds extend 85 miles out from the center of the eye so we are gonna feel this b**** when she hits.

Good morning, everybody! I'm cooking up pancakes, sausages, Little Smokies, bacon and scrambled eggs! Might as well cook up this food while we can.

It's gonna get really rough later this evening, so I hope to take a nap today sometime so I'll be rested enough to be awake and alert through the storm.

In addition to plenty of food and water, I was able to fill up our cars with gasoline three days ago and we have a nifty little adapter that will allow us to run the car cigarette lighter as a 110 outlet. I seriously doubt if it could run a refrigerator, but it could run things like an electric griddle or a fan, or battery cargers, or other small items. We also have two handy car-battery jump-start units that are going to be extremely handy. Each of these units is, in itself, a 12-volt car-battery. Though they are intended to be used to jump-start a dead car, they have a cigarette-lighter outlet which we can use our little adapter for. With this setup, we can have a fan running on us all night as we sleep. Both units are fully charged. We also have 11 AA rechargeable batteries and various flashlights ready and waiting. Here is an image of the adapter and the two battery units:

Anybody got any idea how long I'll be able to run a fan off of those batteriy units?

Dont hook up anything with a heating element (I.E. Griddle, hotplate,) it will drain them HELLA quick plus, that converter wont last long untill the fuse is gone doing that.. If you're running a fan off them you should be good for 24+ hours on both..

Things are slow but cops are all over there. They have started this "contra-traffic" thing in Houston, and they may be doing it through Dallas as well. It is meant to speed things up. There was a bad fire on a bus in Dallas, but other than that, we havent heard of any big accidents/crime. Much of the airwaves are down. I am in Waco, but since I have a Houston area code, even my phone is flaky. I am sure your father is fine, and we will be praying for his safety.
Be safe everyone; dont let the hype throw you into panic. I think if we are watching each others backs, we'll be alright.

Anyone have word of HWY 146? All the news is of relief on 10, 290 and 45, but I know that HWY 146 is jammed just as bad, and my aunt and 81-year-old grandmother were stuck there when we last heard from them at 10pm last night (Thursday). They left at 4AM that morning and had only moved 52 miles at the time we talked to them (20 hrs)! If anyone can give some info on that area, I would sincerely appreciate it.

Here's a LINK to the entire list of viewable Houston Transtar freeway cams. City looks deserted. Creepy.

Really?!? I figured that, since each of these things can start a car several times, they would have enough juice for an electric griddle.

Interesting. Where are the jams now? Anywhere? Now would seem to be the right time to evacuate if one were still inclined to do so.

LOL! No way, man. I'll refrain from using the griddle, but we're not going anywhere.

    Hell, we can't!
