to some claustrophobic ppl, stayin in a car for that long a time just to be on the safe side may seem like an outrageous thot.
What highway are they on...im trying to figure out how long it's goig to take to get to the Airport on the Beltway on friday.
dr. neil frank seems to laugh at the idea of flooding in the parts of houston away from the storm surges. most seem to think the rainfall won't be terrible. however listening to him talk about the potential wind has scared the **** out me. i want to get out but i don't know yet.
Just finished boarding up my windows as best I could.. move all my valuables into the bathroom.. now im getting the hell out of dodge (as it would seem) to Beaumont to spend the powerless nights with my family. Best of luck to everyone.. on the brightside, we've got something to talk about from now until the Rockets win the 2006 championship. right?
Well, I am about to load my truck up and head my convoy to Austin. What a weird weather year, from a foot of snow on Christmas to a Cat. 5 storm lingering around, I hope we have a smooth trip.
Yeah the Beltway was 55 mph all the way in, except the interchanges. And the tolls were free. Had to take a cab - the driver was like, "You have to pay for the tolls..." Whatever dude, just get me home the quickest way possible. I actually live off Memorial near dowtown, but we went all the way around to avoid having to go west at any point. Worked out. Plus, the cab lines at IAH were so long, everyone was sharing cabs. I had a couple of other with me going to the same area.
I think when I watched Saving Private Ryan I was more relaxed than I am right now... and I'm in Plano! The city and county I grew up in may not be there after this hits. My dad's home, and church, and my schools, and hs football stadiums could all be gone... I'm so wired I can't sleep a wink.
My dad just called me. He has been driving since 5pm trying to get out of Houston from Clear Lake and hes now sleeping at a Shell Station waiting for a tanker truck, because he has only a quarter tank of gas left from all bumper to bumper traffic. Hope everyone can make it out ok!
My parents were on there way up to Austin from Deer Park, but in 4 hours have only made it to the Belt and 288. They are just going to stay with us on the west side of town and ride it out. Scary.
My dad has gone 6 miles in the last 3 hours!! But Dallas TV just said that the I-45 south bound lanes will be switched to north bound as well from Houston to Hunstsville by 6 AM... So I've got to get some sleep now... will update what I know from here later, if needed.
Some good news perhaps. It looks like it's shifting to the right. Projected path puts us on the west side of the eye. IT'S GOING BACK TO FINISH UP IN NOLA

Anyone else poopin' their pants whenever they show the new forecasted landfall? That center line that basically goes straight up 45 thru galveston is scurrin the crap out of me.
Only if it keeps going up the coast. Right now it's set to tear the city of Houston a new one. Personally I was a LITTLE more relieved to see the projection line move a LITTLE farther away from Fort Bend. Still there are so many variables that no one is safe right now. The latest update had the winds dropping to 170 from 175.
my family and i were about to leave an hour ago for austin but the parking lot that is 290 ain't helping the cause. i just hope 12-15 hours from now, it'll die down even just a tad. i knew we should have left yesterday
