Hell yeah they bode well for us. Everybody says that the NE quadrant is where the maximum pain lies. I know this b!tch is wide though, so it's not like we're out of the woods by any stretch.
true...but thats only 2 out of 5 that bode well. GFDL is worse case scenario for us...a direct hit. Im hoping for the projected path to shift east... I have everthing prepared..just boarded the windows this evening and have supplies...I would stay but my better half is getting scurred...she wants to head up to the family farm in Livingston where her parents and our youngest are. If the projected landfall doesnt go back south or east by Thurs afternoon...we gonna try to find a route north on the backroads
Get some plywood if you can. If you can't someone from another board suggested using any old wood you can find (from old furntiture, etc.) and try to cover your windows with it. One thing you don't want to have happen is broken windows, and then airflow through the house which might lift the roof off like a wing.
Anyone know the BEST way to get to Austin right now, coming from Reliant Stadium? I'm thinking of taking 90 but Im wondering if I-10 to 71 is still a feasible option. Thx for any help
Just booked tickets for me and my mom and my business partners to head out to Orange county on Friday afternoon. I live in Alief Area so figuring it will have some major winds and stuff.
Glad there is someone else from Alief here. Speaking of which, heard anything about where we live? Any info would help.
Nope haven't heard a thing. I was going to weather the storm with my mom but at this point might as well not take any chances. My business partners basically pushed for us to go and so we bought our tickets and stuff. Im hoping on light damage over here but we never know. No one in my neighborhood has boarded anything up. I was hearing that Centerpoint stated that if the power goes out the odds are that it's going to take at least 7 days to be back up. WHich i think is a stretch but still. To be somewhere with no electricity or water will be bad. Im returning on Tuesday, if they are letting people back by then. Im being told if i want to get to the aiport in time to leave like 6 hours before the flight. Wonder how bad it will be by then.
The guy on NBC news was just showing updated models. Two of the models actually have it hitting fairly well east...Beaumont, near Tex-Lou border. Of course, the other 3 or 4 still had it hitting us directly.
I have a good feeling that by late tommorrow morning most of the projected paths will be well east of Houston specifically near the LA/TX border. The past 12 hours, Rita has moved 0.5N and 0.5W with is exactly NW. If it starts making it's turn early, we will be spared from castostrophic damage. However, like others said, we are nowhere near out of the woods.
Alright guys, I'm headed off to bed. For those of ya'll coming up here to Austin, Godspeed. Personally, I'd try to ride it out. But I can definitely understand. Hopefully Houston gets spared.
http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?s...ffic&id=3266799 You can pull down different traffic cams around the city to get a better idea of where the gridlock is. Looks like there's a mass exodus of people trying to get the f*ck out.
I have to keep looking at it cause i have to get to the airport on Friday afternoon. Ill take the beltway but still would take forever i think...maybe it's not at as bad on the beltway.
Might not be as bad if you're flying out of Hobby, going South. If you're going north to IAH, make sure you get like a 8 hour start. FYI...for those of yall coming to Austin, the HEB on Far West was out of bottled water and batteries as of 11:30P tonight. This is madness.
I came in from the airport around 8 pm today. Was on vacation, had to come back to take care of some stuff at my house, mainly pets, before deciding what to do - will likely leave tomorrow. Anyway, took the Beltway all the way from JFK to I-10 West...not too many problems, except for the interchanges with all the major highways heading north (45, 290 and I-10). It is definitely the route I would take, though.
Yeah i am going to be taking the Beltway up there to Intercontinental. So only the interchanges were busy and the rest of the roads were looking pretty decent? im figuring it wouldn't be too bad on there becuase beltway 8 is a loop and doesnt really go anywhere in particular.
On the phone with my Dad now..... he left Lake Jackson at 4 PM, he is only 84 miles north of there in Conroe... an hour shy of 12 hrs. Said it was normal, 60 mph to Houston, then at 610/45 junction from 288, snails pace! 1-2 mph, since with "speeds" up to 10 mph.
Hello, I currently live in Dallas, but I was born and raised in Houston. I lived there for roughtly 20 years. I have seen severe flooding due to Alicia, storms, and rain etc. In my opinion these areas will suffer flooding due to massive rain fall: 1) Meyerland - Braes Bayou often overflows 2) Sugarland - by the bayou, meaning east side of 59 3) Beltway 8 @ I-10 avoid at all costs. 4) I-10 East towards Downtown (heights area) - buffalo bayou 5) anything off of Memorial Dr. going towards downtown The situation in Dallas is pretty scary. The hotel capacity is 100%. My parents could not even get a room at Homewood Suites in Irving, TX. We are expecting a cat 1 if it were to go through Dallas. Anyhow, best of luck to all who decide to ride it out. If it were me, I'd just get the heck out.
