dude, don't tell me that.. i'm heading to beaumont.. i dont want to go from the frying pan to the fryer
Just to re-iterate from an earlier post. Please make sure you identify who "they" is when you post something. Even if you don't have a link, just make sure you cite the source so we all know where the information is coming from. Thanks.
Now notice that the probability cone grabs a bigger chunk of Louisiana than it did and parts of Louisiana that only had Tropical Storm Warnings will not be under Hurricane Watches.
Funny, my original predictions were that the storm would hit to the east of us. Someone said a few days ago that being right down the middle of the predicted landfall zone might be a blessing because we were so far out at the time. No telling at the moment.
Latest discussion has Rita coming onshore south of Freeport slightly as the biggest a cat 4 can get with 155mph winds. Good lord. If that happens, expect 130+mph winds in downtown and 100mph winds extending northward to the Conroe area. They could actually have a cat 1 storm in central Texas!!!
Talk about it. My family went to Convington, LA (across Lake Ponchatrain from New Orleans) to stay during the storm. Ironic. My grandmother leaves there to seek shelter here, stays 3 weeks only to go back to her house still with no power and tree laying on her roof to seek shelter from this storm. I can't freaking believe my family decided to go to Louisianna thinking that was automatically safe from the hurricane. This still could shoot right up and hit there and there my family sits when they made reservations at a Dallas hotel and didn't use them.
Cool. Only an F2 tornado: Category F2: Significant tornado (113-157 mph); considerable damage. roofs torn off frame houses; mobile homes demolished; boxcars pushed over; large trees snapped or uprooted; light-object missiles generated. I can't decide if 'boxcars pushed over' or 'light-object missiles generated'... I think maybe missiles.
Basically even thuogh it hits land and then starts to die out it will still be a Category 1 hurricane in the middle of Texas and around Dallas area.
This is what's so scary about this storm. I hear people going north to the Woodlands... wth... you're still going to get hammered! It'll be less than if you were on the coast, but going 25 miles north doesn't mean you're clear especially considering the predicted northward turn of the storm. I was looking at projected wind speeds earlier today, and they may have changed since then, but they were predicting that it could possibly be a Cat1 or even Cat2 hurricane as it approaches Dallas.
Since the folks at the National Hurricane Center don't put CITIES on the map, I tried my best and superimposed mapquest's TEXAS map with KATY (where I live) as a STAR. Doesn't look good. This may be my last post of the month of September. See you soon, KATY, Houston, bbs dudes. I am friggin' scared, yo.
what is this rumor i hear that austin won't let anymore people in? any word on that? my friend told me she heard it from a friend that watched the news (which pretty much makes it bullcrap to me) but still....any news?
I hear you man, I live in Webster and will be riding this thing out at Work(St. Joseph Downtown) I should get some wicked pics if we are not forced into the tunnels(Hope it dos not flood down there). I am being told that Downtown will be locked down and nobody in or out unless you are working
I think they do that on PURPOSE. They don't want IDIOTS to think because that small forecast line misses their little HICK town that they are SAFE. A hurricane is a WIDE path of destruction.
Swoly D- We'll be OK.. I'm in Katy also bro.. Almost everyone on my street is going to stay.. I'm gettin my ass to San Marcos, but I think my home will be here when I get back minus a few less parts from the roof, but here none the less.. CHEER UP EVERYONE, you'll go crazy if you keep reading all the bad stuff all the time.. Just like the Rox at the start of last season, in the end everything will turn out OK..
I think ch13abc just said there is a Mandatory evacuation in Pasadena. Edit: found a link, order effective at 6 a.m. Thursday. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=hurricanes&id=3464473
Yes you are correct about pasadena starting at 600 AM. They also just said the evacuation route on 146 has stopped due to a bus of elderly that have passed out because of carbon deoxide. 14 of 27 on the bus at Fairmont and 146
