I'm starting to consider this since I have family down there. I was just waiting it out and making sure it wasn't going to turn that way!
Bill White just said in a LIVE news conference if you live in a Storm Surge Area or 100 year flood plain, get out. He said All major employers and then corrected himself, ALL employers should let their employees off THURSDAY and FRIDAY. ALL school districts should close THURSDAY and FRIDAY.
Better to be safe than sorry...It is amazing to see the reports come in...Its still too early to tell, but even if it shifts south, the high winds and rain will cause damage... God luck for those of you staying, but if you can go, why wouldn't you...I'll be praying for you guys...
i'm pretty damn sure i am in the 100 year flood plain.. but i need to look at a map to be sure.. can anybody help with this? bueller?

over the news service at my office the national hurricane center just said they expect rita to strengthen to Cat 5
Thanks, but that thing isn't working for me.. all I get us "unable to locate address" even though I keep putting in several different valid addresses.
I tried that site and saw nothing. Am I doing something wrong (I input my address). Is my employer (which happens to be in the Galleria) the only yet to say anything about the office being open or closed on Thu and Fri?
does anybody know what are the possible damages for the sugar land area? Should me and my family evacuate? I've been looking through the threads and mostly all it talks about is downtown and north houston. my dad wants to stay and see it through but I want to get the hell out of here and go out to austin.
Tonight it is supposed to be a 5---but they expect it to diminish by the time it strikes land..........possibly back down to a three. They also moved the track further south again. I'm gonna stick around and wait to see when it turns. Two of the models are suggesting that it will go up to Dallas and stall.......which could make Dallas as uncomfortable as Houston.
You have the link to those two models? I have family going up to Dallas right now if its not safe I think I'm going to try to convince them to go else where....
from what im seeing, the eastern, inner edge of the think might be coming right up into the west houston suburgs, including sugarland
mom just heard that they thought it might move more north. i guess it shows we really don't have a huge clue of where it will end up yet. but i do know that i am going crazy worrying about this.
Found another website with alot of Rita information posted on one webpage like the one Jeff posted earlier. Right here. And this here is the best visual loop of the hurricane I can find. Click on loop under goes east visual floater. It takes pictures even during nighttime so there will be some dark frames.
