UPDATE : After filing a complaint on the website, I was contacted by the store manager immedietly who offered to replace my axle free of charge. I got in there and had it done this morning. He swears up and down that his mechanics have nothing to gain from ruining my vehicle because they are hourly. My concern wasn't the mechanics, it was the sales people behind the counter who may be pressured to produce higher sales volume and might suggest such a tactic. As fas as the customer service goes, their response to this issue was timley and professional, but I doubt i'm going back anyways just because of the chance that they did actually cause the puncture in the cv boot.
The mechanic shop is called "Sals on Westhiemer" it is on Westhiemer and Chimney Rock. I actually told him that Firestone offered to repair my axle free of charge but since i didn't trust them I would rather pay and have Sal do it. He told me "no, if they are offering it free go ahead, i doubt they will screw you again now that they know your paying attention to them" So the fact that he turns down business when he knows something is not necessary for the customer really gives him credibility. He also let me know I had nothing wrong with my oil when i brought it in thinking I had a leak.
Sounds like something Firestone would do. It's hard to find a decent mechanic, but there are some. The entire service industry has gone down the ****ter in the last 10 years.
I have a recommendation for all HONDA and ACURA auto owners. Burden Auto Care on FM 1960 a block from Jones road are the best and most honest mechanics I have ever been to. They only service Honda and Acura automobiles. As long as that shop is in business, I will ONLY buy Hondas and Acuras from now on. They are always great at explaining all the work they do and will tell you when you can wait on a repair. They have saved me a TON of money. Well, crap. That would be great if I lived in Houston. *sigh* To the OP : I have a Firestone near my house that I take my car to on occasion. My car's pretty reliable, so I hardly have any kind of problems with it (now watch it explode in the parking lot). I had something I thought was a brake issue that needed brake pad or rotor replacement, so I took it to them. They said the pads and rotors looked fine, said I didn't need new pads or rotors, and didn't even charge me labor because I had been there before. I think it depends on the location of any mechanic you go to. I trust these guys by my house. I also trust Discount Tire to the point I always try to buy new tires from them.
