The Los Angeles Clippers and the Cleveland Cavaliers are in discussions about a trade that would send guard Baron Davis to Cleveland for guard Mo Williams, according to league sources. The deal is not close to being finalized and the teams will continue talking Thursday before the 3 p.m. deadline.

Davis did not dress for Wednesday’s game against New Orleans with what the team said was a sore knee. Williams returned for Cleveland just before the All-Star break after missing 13 games with a hip injury.

Though slumping from the floor of late, Davis has played much better of late for the Clippers after starting the season at odds with coach Vinny Del Negro when he came to camp out of shape.

The Cavaliers would be able to absorb Davis’ $13 million salary by virtue of the large trade exception they received from Miami in the LeBron James sign-and-trade deal.

Hearing from my end about very advanced talks between Cavs-Clips, Baron Davis-Mo Williams, backing up DA's report. Deal not done.

Mo Williams could throw the ball to LeBron, I'm sure he can do the same for Blake. Good deal for the Clippers.

Even though Mo Williams' contract isn't all that great... giving up Baron Davis' contract is a big win for the Clippers.

BD might go insane if this happens.

Why would the Cavs want to take on Davis's contract? Its about 13-14 mill for 2 more seasons while Williams is 8 for 2.

Davis is a name they can market to their fans in the short term.

To be honest, I want Mo Williams to rot in Cleveland. B diddy doesn't deserve this.

Cleveland fans aren't that dumb. Everbody knows by now that BD is a fat slug. If not, Cavs fans would figure it out in his first game.

I refuse to believe Cavs management would actually make this insane trade. Imagine another team getting pwned by the Clippers.

Don't understand how this deal would make any difference, both are average players, and one of them is coming back from injury.

The Clippers 1st rounder is their motivation obviously. Don't know if it's protected or not.

If it's not I wonder if Cavs would trade it for Brooks.

Why would they want Brooks if they have Sessions, Gibson, Harris, and now Davis?
