Halleluja, is probably the song thats he was mostly known for. RIP... Mr. Cohen ....... ....... .......
He's been sick for awhile. Had to quit touring - I remember reading an article just as his new album was about to come out and he knew that the end was near. Really sucks...
For whatever reason the first thing I thought of upon hearing this news was the song "Pennyroyal Tea" by Nirvana. Anyway, sad news.
My wife's favorite musician since she was a teenager. She'd actually heard on Wednesday while we were mourning the election to make for a very bad day. There was no news about it yet, but she knew a person who knew a person. And then it hit the news on Thursday.
I think "The Traitor" is the finest song ever written. But it's not much better than the rest of his catalog. He was a true genius. The world lost something amazing...
He died on Monday, apparently. He was spared the Trump election, at least. Kinda a funny thing to ask since he wasn't really commercially popular. He was a musician's musician.
What sad news. I was lucky enough to be in Austin in the late '60's visiting some girlfriends that lived in one of the cottages that used to be on the side of Castle Hill, along Baker street, and got to meet him. Someone met Leonard, here for a gig, and brought him by. He ended up sitting around with a couple of dozen of us singing and playing his music, while various things you can buy over the counter in Colorado were being passed around. I'll never forget it. Some songs? Suzanne, Bird on the Wire, Famous Blue Raincoat are a few. Some LP's to buy should start with Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967 or '68) and Songs From A Room (1969)
