RIP. Kemp was an interesting political figure and one who actually did believe in compassionate conservatism. He had some interesting ideas regarding urban development and if he had the chance to lead the party might've taken it very different direction. One story that I heard about Kemp on Meet the Press the other day was that GH Bush would get very annoyed at him during Cabinet meetings because he would always seem to take the meetings off on tangents.
Oh I don't think so. The Dems didn't essentially say we are the party of racism, vote for us, white folk. Because the GOP did this you have Black folk voting 95% or whatever for the Dems. Essentially the Dems say we are the party against racism, vote for us.
the irony of this is what started as dixiecrats has now led to the ineptitude and irrelevance of the modern republican party is that the point you're making, because other than the fact that this was a thread about a guy who died, the guy who died is the type of guy leaving the party, and the guy in the picture is the type who is staying
Jack Kemp was one of my political heroes. His general philosophy can probably be summed up "America is Great. Let's Make it Better." He truly believed what he espoused and thought his economic beliefs could help raise everyone's standard of living. I believe he truly wanted to make the Republican Party inclusive and focused on solving as many of the problems we could for every class and every race. There wasn't an Us against Them with him. It was more a debate of ideas and ideals. He wasn't apolitical, but I believe he was more concerned about doing what he thought was right over doing what would win elections for the Party. You can debate whether his policies would've achieved the effects he believed they would, but I don't think you can doubt the man's sincerity.
