Got to see him pitch twice. I you ever had, you'd never forget it. RIP J.R. Can't believe this has gone 4 pages and nobody posted this yet:
Here I sit waiting to board another plane, wearing my mask still because 30% of the population are afraid of the most amazing medical response in history, waiting to fly back to Texas where hospitals are full and people are dying because some ducking morons can’t understand that viruses mutate when they continue to circulate among people who are too dumb to realize that the only reason the virus and vaccine is political is because one morbidly obese sexual-predator President needed an excuse for yet another life failure, and so blamed some vague conspiracy for which no objective evidence exists anywhere in the world … yeah I’m always impressed by others’ diplomacy. But everyone is entitled to do their own research and make their own decisions. Why believe the consensus of literally every epidemiologist when you orange_ball_licker_6969 on Reddit can tell you all about one guy he knows who heard someone say they got sick after being vaccinated? Keep it circulating and mutating until ball_licker can run the regression models himself. Thankfully JR Richard’s life wasn’t worth as much as some selfish pricks’ tribal affiliation. Thanks for the laugh indeed.
What vague conspiracy are you talking about? And you sure seem to blame every little thing on Trump which is quite laughable. I didn't vote for the guy but I sure as hell didn't vote for the left either. They're just as bad, if not worse, in many ways. Our country is headed into the abyss thanks to all of these people in power. You don't think Kamala questioning the vaccine had any effect on the number of African-Americans willing to take the jab? You don't think these institutions being all over the place and muddled in their message for months has been a major issue? You just come off as an extreme partisan.
A certain poster that made a "sheep" comment earlier in the thread apparently wants more stories like the one Enos Cabell told on TV the other night. Just lock this up, please
@Castor27 How many threads are we going to keep locking up without addressing the root cause? Yes it’s more than just one poster but that particular poster has an annoying habit of not only derailing threads constantly but is condescending/polarizing every time
My teenage memories of the Astros were driven by the only out-of-state exposure I'd get, i.e. network Game of the Week. The only two prominent recollections I have were of Art Howe and his killer sideburns (he was a cueball as a player too ) and the way JR Richard pitched. He frankly amazed me- when he threw that low-90s slider down, it looked as though the ball had to travel maybe 15 feet to the plate, it came down from so high. (does anyone know his measured reach?) He came through town as a Toro on rehab assignment after the stroke and all the news reports on how he looked were positive... mostly wishful thinking I suppose, in the end. Was happy to hear him on the radio in the 2nd half of the 90s after his underpass days and the major outreach effort getting him back on his feet. I heard a grateful man talking about Houston in a loving way. Respect to an awesome talent and by all appearances, a gentle guy.
JR was held back because of his control issues. He improved, but not to the point a batter dared to dig in because of strategic loss of control from time to time. I do think he would have been better off today with Doctors less limited by the idea that heart problems only affect the very young or very old.
