I'm ashamed I didn't know more about him. The more I hear about what he accomplished the more I realize what an amazing guy Robinson was. When he started coaching at Grambling, he didn't have any kind of a staff, he even had to mark the damn field himself. On road trips, the team couldn't get food because so many restaurants were segregated so he had to pack sandwhiches for the whole team. To start there and build that up to a program that sent over 200 players to the NFL, that's just impossible, but he did it.

    RIP

He was an amazing coach that led over 200 of his students to the NFL. What he did for these kids can never be duplicated. Many of them had nowhere else to go and probably wouldn't have gotten a college education.

    He will be missed.

    RIP

Doug Williams called him the greatest coach that ever lived, and that's hard to argue. Once, his star running back was pulled out of school by his parents to pick cotton on the family farm. Eddie Robinson took the whole team down and picked all of the cotton in a weekend. Grambling went undefeated that year.

Most amazing stat? 85% career player graduation rate.

We need to value our Civil Rights heroes while a few of them are left.

Wow. He was an amazing coach. The sad thing is that I've never even heard of him. Kids should know about the role models we still have left.
