A real loss for America. Listening to some of the remembrances of him it is a truly amazing life. I was listening to Cory Booker point out that many of the freedoms he enjoyed growing up and the position he got to in life would not have been possible without John Lewis.

Yeah. As they start taking down confederate statues they can just replace them with statues of Barbara Jordan, John Lewis, etc.

I was trying to find the facebook post about the holocaust survivor that @rocketsjudoka mentioned in another topic, and I ran across this:

    https://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20200721/venice-holocaust-survivor-lauds-john-lewis

Venice Holocaust survivor lauds John Lewis
Pieter Kohnstam, civil rights leader crossed paths honoring the memory of Anne Frank

Today as we John Lewis crosses the Edmund Pettus Bridge one last time into Selma we need to remember that he didn't go into Selma carrying a rifle. he didn't go in burning and looting. John Lewis with armed with only moral certitude that comes from the truly righteous. The paid a terrible price for that but we remember him as a hero of not only this country but also of humanity for his dignity in the face of brutal violence.

A lot of people quote the MLK "riot is the language of the dispossessed" but in that same speech he also said.
"Let me say as I've always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating. I'm still convinced that nonviolence is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom and justice. I feel that violence will only create more social problems than they will solve. That in a real sense it is impracticable for the Negro to even think of mounting a violent revolution in the United States. So I will continue to condemn riots, and continue to say to my brothers and sisters that this is not the way. And continue to affirm that there is another way."

John Lewis not only heard those words, he understood them and he lived them.

Surely a touching scene, but I can hear the conservative posters now whining about the crowd.

If ever someone finds it difficult to measure greatness, you could do far worse than studying the life of John Lewis.

    Rest in Peace.

trump is the most vile and petty little man alive. Not on;y does his attempt to distract attention away from Obama's eulogy to Congressman John Lewis, but his stunt sullied the worthy cause of the Guillen family by using their daughters death as a political event. Truly vile and disgusting.

Everyone should watch President Obama's eulogy of John Lewis. It is both moving and remarkable. Possibly, considering the context, the best speech of his career. His eulogy should be available soon online. I watched it live. Incredible.
