When exactly did he fly back to Atlanta? I know they had a Raw House show on Saturday. he wasn't there for it.
MSNBC says Vince McMahon will apologize for last night's RAW tribute to Benoit. Is that necessary? WWE didn't know Benoit was a murderer...it was one of the theories and he's getting bashed for taking advantage of the situation.
The bizarre takes a turn toward the even more bizarre if that's possible... Vince apologizing is going to make the situation even tackier, but in terms of PR, this is a no-win situation for the WWE and rasslin' no matter what he does or doesn't do.
At this point, the best that the WWE/McMahon could do is shut the hell up about the whole situation, quit posting press releases and never mention Benoit's name ever again.
Not that I am defending the WWE or Roids but the statement isn't really a preemptive strike but more of a rebuttal. Fox News and CNN both wrapped up the press conference coverage, with the anchors basically saying it appears the situation was the result of "Roid Rage". Fox News even went so far as to have a medical doctor come on and talk about steroids. Surprisingly he said from the evidence he had heard about it didn't sound like a "Roid Rage" situation at all, given the legnth of time it took for it all to play out.
I think that's what they are going to do. At the beginning of ECW McMahon said that other than the comments he is making now they will never mention his name again. Now I was just barely paying attention so I could have heard wrong.
ECW just started. Vince was on screen saying they won't mention Benoit anymore. They will move on. They will entertain us the best way they know how. and they start off with freaking Cena. If it was roid rage, it must have been one hell of a roid rage, cause it lasted the weekend.
Regardless, why does the WWE feel compelled to defend themselves in this situation? I understand the media is harping on the "roid rage" scenario, but no one has accused the WWE of supplying or telling Benoit to take steroids. IMO, it was just a very odd press release. Again, it was almost like the WWE was defending the use of steroids. Just odd all the way around.
Every time the steroid issue comes up, everybody points fingers at WWE and McMahon. When the Benoit facts came to light and the media started running with the steroid story, a natural reaction for WWE is "not again...we're going to get blamed for this somehow." It actually makes sense when you think about it.
