It’s hard to know what demons he was battling without being in his shoes. From the outside, it appears to be a selfish decision that effects his family and friends. Sounds like the man had it all.
I think this is an important element. We have no idea what might have been going through his head, but his public persona seemed to be of someone that wanted to use platform to impact change. To have all the fame and wealth and publiciity and the world, and possibly to feel you still weren't having an impact could be a difficult thing to process and cope with, and could lead you to the "what's the point?" or "it will never get better" stages that can lead to giving up.
I understand the "selfish" argument when talking about his daughter, but affecting his other family and friends, I think is a one-sided look at things. It would also be pretty selfish of his friends & family to expect him to continue to deal with pain and misery (assuming that's what he was going through) for their sake. Sometimes, there are simply no good choices and no right-or-wrong, as much as we'd like to analyze and evaluate decisions.
No. This is an excuse. Suicide has gone up 25% in the past two decades. Does that mean mental illness has gone up too? OK. Why? No reason, huh? There's a reason. Let's find it.
so many people blaming mental issues/depression when we have no idea if that's the case or if he even committed suicide. seems unlikely to me that him of all people wouldn't leave a suicide note.

oh i didn't mean somebody killed him. i just meant there's a (much much greater than) non-zero chance of autoerotic asphyxiation. guy is a famous writer and a wordsmith. seems extremely unlikely that he wouldn't write a note.
I bet Elvis is chuckling somewhere that the kungfu dude is known for the most embarrassing way to go.
Noooooo Reservations. Watched that series in college and enjoyed seeing the world thru his show really made me want to travel. It looked fun and adventurous in a mellow way. Gonna miss him. Now I don't know show could possibly fill the No Reservations and Parts Unknown void.
