Well I guess we will have to just agree to disagree. Biggio's is one of my all time favorite players because of the work ethic he brings to the plate, the things he does on and off the field, his longevity and his overall brilliant career. Of course he's slowed the past few years, but I don't think it's tarnished his legacy in any way because he still produces. Maybe he's become (in the twilight of his career) just an average player and not the HOF he's (hopefully) destined to be, but he's doing far more than Sosa and Palmeiro did before calling it quits, and certainly more than Bonds (whose nursing injuries every other game it seems). And if his numbers are skewed by the short porch so be it; they have 81 games at MMP so he might as well take advantage of it. And you know anytime someone mentions he fails to deliver in crucial situations, he does. While he's certainly cooled off (which he is prone to do after the break) he was hitting pretty well toward the beginning of the season. I think awful is a little extreme; I'll go with average (though admittiedly average is nothing to be proud of either on a team full of average to below hitters).
To say they didn't try as hard as they could to try to resign Beltran is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard.
I just hope that if there is a chance of getting Soriano, that it doesnt get impeded by Biggio's quest of 3000 hits. Maybe Soriano would agree to play LF one last year if thats the case.
i think he's just a troll, albeit a lurking troll for awhile. seriously, every post in every thread i remember from him is usually negative. i'm sure i'm not the only one who feels this way.
Alyson Footer had a blurb in her mailbox a little while ago about how the Stros were pretty close to trading Bagwell to Boston for Nomar either before or after the '98 season. Hadn't heard that before.
