He's not losing his job over what he said as much as how his teammates have reacted. It sounds like none of his teammates really have his back and don't want to have anything to do with him. In a job where teamwork is everything, it's a recipe for disaster to keep the guy around especially when he's a marginal type player.

When you use words like that it does define you as a person.

A ignorant person or a racist person.

    Pick one.

He may not hate us shaud but we are not high on his like list. But in all seriousness I do think he has some type of hate for black people. Drunk or sober I'm pretty sure he knows the meaning and history of that word. You only use that word to make black people feel a certain way, and to make anyone feel that way you have to have some kind of hate towards them I think.

So, just because he couldn't get backstage he had to call the security guards racial slurs?? Shameful.

Did he ever apologize to the security guards?

Kelly has things in store for him I think. And he's not a terrible player, definitely worth holding onto under normal circumstances. And again, they gave an ex-con a second chance, he'll probably be starting, it'd be hypocritical for that franchise to cut the guy.

Yeah, there's a difference though. Vick's teammates have been pretty supportive since his arrival in Philly. Cooper, during practices, has returned to the sidelines and been on a one-man island. Like somebody said, you don't need that kind of disruption when you need cohesiveness. T.O. is a great example, he was at the prime of his career, was far superior to Cooper and his antics cost the team and himself a roster spot and millions of dollars.

Still feels hypocritical in my opinion. Convicted felon (Vick) pass. Suspected murderer (Lewis) pass. Racist viral video (Cooper) outcast. Not to mention the countless DUIs and assault arrests every offseason.

Seriously, Vick as a leader of the team should step up more in this situation. He of all people should know about forgiveness and second chances.

Not saying I expect all of the team to react this way, but I expected atleast VICK would react this way. That's hypocritical.

Vick actually has been one of the more supportive teammates to Cooper.

I hope so. And he should be.

I heard he initially came out with supporting comments, then later retracted that stance saying (I'm paraphrasing) "maybe we don't know Riley that well", etc etc.

guess you never said anything that you regret. I personally don't see it a big issue, but I don't get offended easily.

Yes I have but once over 18 I have NEVER called anyone a racist slur. I do not think he should lose his job, but I do not blame some of the players for not having his back.

Riley Cooper has not been suspended and it does not look like he will.

And I think if Porter would have said that slur to a gay person it would have been a much bigger story.

Doesn't matter who he directed it to, it doesn't excuse his half-assed apology to the gay community saying IF he offended anyone, and anyone he MAY have offended.

"You know, that was probably a poor choice of words. So if I offended anybody, I apologize for that...I don't know ... I guess because how we used that word freely, me growing up using that word, I didn't think anything of it. Like I said, I apologize to anyone I may have offended. I didn't mean to offend anybody but Kellen Winslow."

I agree that it would've been a bigger story. But let's not downplay the severity of this "mistake" and display of ignorance, if it truly was a mistake.

He even says he used the word freely, growing up. So if it doesn't mean he's hateful to gays specifically, it means he's ignorant and probably used the word many times without ever thinking twice.

Imagine that Riley Cooper gave a half-assed apology and said he used the word freely, growing up with his friends.

Fights during practice don’t usually mean much — it’s just guys blowing their tops for a minute during rehearsals that can be physical, whether the NFL likes it or not. However, the Thursday scuffle between two Philadelphia Eagles — receiver Riley Cooper and cornerback Cary Williams — might be indicative of larger issues. Quarterback Michael Vick was the one breaking up the fracas, which started after Williams batted a ball that Vick threw to Cooper. Williams and Cooper went at it for a few seconds, were separated, and Williams then started walking after Cooper, jawing all the way. At that point, Vick physically restrained Williams, and gave him a good talking-to.

After practice, Vick was congratulated by one reporter for being a peacemaker, according to Philly.com’s Les Bowen. Vick’s response? “I try to be the peacemaker, but these young dudes don’t respect me.”

“Our maturity level’s gotta be on a whole different plane. Regardless of who the catalyst was for the whole fight, that doesn’t matter. We’ve gotta be men. We’re not guys who are out on the street, fighting one another. We’re teammates … It’s game week. We don’t have time for that. I don’t. It’s a distraction.”

Cooper said that the fight was not related to the racist remarks he made at a concert earlier this year, which caused turmoil in the Eagles’ locker room. Cooper left the team for a short time before returning.

“Just one-on-ones,” he said. “Both being super competitive, going for the ball, and we were tangled.”

But according to Jeff McClane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, it was about more than that.
