If a bad idea is the only idea, you really have no idea.

I'm saying that you don't have to do something... lots of legislation does not get passed.

I'm saying that someone chose to put that grieving child and his grandmother in front of the camera on a national stage in a desperate attempt to squelch criticism of the plan itself. In other words: an attempt to circumvent the details of the plan in favor of the emotion of a tough situation. I stand by my earlier observation that most of the criticism was saved for the puppeteers rather than the puppets -- with Rush's bluster being the major exception.

So you see the child as a puppet? You don't think he is doing all these willingly?

Exactly. You are entitled to be against health care reform. If you want to improve the situation then you do have to support the available legislation.

If you prefer status quo you don't.

Right. You can do nothing. Like I said.

No you/I don't! Legislation is proposed not fixed; it can be changed, even improved. There should be no take it or leave it aspect. That's just bullying not constructive governing.

A general observation about life: often doing the wrong thing is worse than doing nothing...

The Democrats are using this kid, and marching him out there. I think its shameful the Democrats are doing that. Leave the kids at home when it comes to politics.

I have a feeling that if that child was up there quoting scripture, you'd be ridiculing the whole thing... am I right?

That process has been gone through. The legislation obviously isn't perfect. But it is what's out there and improvement over the status quo.

So either you support health care reform or you support the status quo. Those are the options available to us all.

Republicans are not allowing the legislation to be changed. Their proposed alternative to the bill in place is kill it and start from scratch. A proposal that is clearly aimed at pushing this past midterm elections when they hope to have knocked out the power of the democratic majority. At that point they can gridlock the issue and put it back in the pantry for another few years.

So it leaves us in a bad position. Do we support a bill that isn't good because we think something has to be done? Or do we let the Republicans win and do nothing. Again. Like has happened for over a decade. Tough choice really.

The population is generally irked at both parties. Any incumbent is at risk. So whatever happened over the last 10 years is not doomed to be repeated... because a lot of the players may change!

Most "starter houses" turn into something bigger and more expensive!

We know that not changing health care isn't sustainable and the price is going up many times faster than people's salaries.

We do know that this imperfect bill will actually cut the deficit as well provide health care for 32 million uninsured folks, and hold costs down or at least guarantee that money is being spent on actual health care rather than profits for insurance execs.

The players haven't changed for a century, only their faces.
