i don't know, but i can confidently say vince young was a better college football player last year than redick was a college basketball player. i like duke (2nd to Texas) and i like redick and he passed a lot of career milestones last year, but as far as i know, nothing about his year was historic. it was just really good. he was even outscored by 2 ppg by morrison (who obviously played lesser competition). and his team was knocked out in the sweet 16 and he had a very bad game. he was essentially shut down by one guy in a big game. the best of the best probably shouldn't have that happen to them. on the other hand, vince bestrode the college football landscape like a colossus. he had the first 3000/1000 season ever. he led his offense to 50 ppg (the first title team to do so since '95 nebraska and only 2nd since 1945). he stepped up in the biggest of games and nearly singlehandedly won the national title game with possibly the best individual performance in cfb history. i would say he was unequivocally better at his sport than redick was at his.
I find the funniest part of the thread is the winner in 1993 1993 - Charlie Ward, basketball, football
It's racism. Redick would never have gotten this award was he black or whatever. Did Trajan Langdon win it?
Disagree. I think Reddick had the bigger impact on the court. Why? His team was horrible if he was horrible and awesome if he was awesome. When Reddick was on, Duke was the best team in the nation. When he wasn't...well, Sweet 16 was about right.
This argument makes a lot of sense to me. However, he didn't even win the Heisman - so he wasn't even the best player in his college sport, apparently. Not saying it's right, but that is how it is.
Redick had a 1st team all american on his team. Redick could be stoped by a good scheme that made sure the screens did not get him space. Morrison carried less just as far and could score despite the scheme. If Morrison played for Duke, and JJ on Zaga, the awards wouldn't have been split--they would ALL have gone to Morrison. JJ had a weak case for the best amatuer BB player, and a much weaker case for overall athlete.
