That's what I don't understand. A discussion about Ricky Williams smoking weed has four pages already. I remember an earlier discussion as well. Meanwhile, was there ever a thread brought up about the Carolina Panther players/doctors who allegedly used steroids?
True enough, and one of the things I've been considering lately. Part of it depends how you are conditioned culturally. I don't use illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. We all use the usual aspirin and such for medicinal purposes. I do try to stay off the mind- and mood-altering ones, though I suck down large amounts of caffeine every morning, and I've been planning to take Nyquil tonight even though I'm not sick. I guess the idea is that those merely perk you up/ make you sleep. They don't get you high or change the way you react to life. My thing is that I would ideally want my friends to stay clean in that regard, so I would know it was really them talking and not just the drugs. And, therefore, I should set a good example myself. It just seems that weed is very popular these days. I've been dealing with a friend who has to take hits of it a couple of times a day for "medical" purposes. Like RM95's parents, I just haven't tried it and I'm sure it must feel good or people wouldn't do it. I just have these high standards for myself, don't like the way it smells, etc. I can't help but wish there were more others like myself. (and, by the way, I spent 5 years at UT ) I was just trying to say that it's so pervasive in society that it's kind of funny that everyone gets on Ricky's case about it. Now, if it really was a harder drug, this will give ammunition to the "mar1juana is a gateway drug" camp.
I'm with RM95, don't refer to me as your sibling. I'm not just some random UT-Austin fan, I'm an alum, who happened to stay "weed-free" through 99.5% of my stay. And by God, I do not look up to that man. I don't agree with many of the life choices he's made. I think that given his situation, he's getting what's coming to him. He deserves the suspension and whatever else may follow. I'm not debating that. What I'm debating, and now falling prey to, is the fact that you people are freaking out and screaming, " I knew it! I knew this was coming! I told you so! Oh my God! Look at this! Holy Cow! Loser! Loser! Loser!" Y'all are going off the deep end for something that's happened thrice before! It's OLD F'ING NEWS! RICKY WILLIAMS IS A STONER! HE SMOKES WEED! WELCOME TO THE TWENTIETH CENTURY! Maybe soon you can join the rest of us in the twenty-first.
I'm glad that all the reports are clarifying that. It still doesn't change the fact that he has failed a fourth piss test, and it still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people are acting like this is truly and sincerely noteworthy of the greatest magnitude. I don't give a rat's ass where anyone went to college (be that person Ricky Williams or Lance Armstrong) - if you're stupid enough to be a professional athlete and take illegal drugs (or any other banned substances) of any sort, you're probably gonna get caught, and when you do, you deserve what's coming to you, be it the first, fourth, or thirteenth time. End of story. Why is everyone debating something that's already been beat to death? Why can't we all just wait for all the facts to come in, and wait for the outcome of the situation before crying about it?
That's true in the grand scheme of things this is meaningless. What Ricky Williams is though is an example, an object lessen. Those who are given great natural talent often don't deserve it and often those who don't have great talent do deserve it.
A flake is a flake, pot-smoker or not. Ricky's a flake. Weed need not necessarily interfere with one's God-given talents. In fact, many great achievements have been created with mar1juana's assistance. For example, Reese's Swoops. It is unimaginable that these potato chip-shaped chocolates could have possible been conceived without the effects of THC. They are chips; they are chocolate: Someone at Hershey's parties. Be not ashamed to live in a society where such things are not shunned, but celebrated. Reese's Swoops are a choice that improves the quality of life for us all. Further proof? I give you: The world contained french fries. The world embraced chicken. But it took minds improved by pot smoke to dream up CHICKEN FRIES. Our lives didn't seem all that bad without them, but let me ask you this: How would you feel if someone tried to take our chicken fries AWAY? I rest my case. Who knows what heights mar1juana might yet spur Ricky Williams on to? Let he who is without snack cast the first stone.
Don't forget the drug that's #1 on my DO NOT TOUCH list at the moment.... Decongestants (prescription or over the counter) It's what the trailer-park social set likes to make crystal meth out of. Would you like some SPEED with those biscuits and gravy, Luther??? Stay away people!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course in your world it is much better for an athlete to take a dangerous performance enhancing drug (cheating).
I agree and I didn't do that. I took issue with Isabel calling for a drug-free lifestyle when I doubted she lived one herself. She's since said she uses caffeine to perk herself up and Nyquil to knock herself out (even when she's not sick). That's not a drug-free lifestyle. Likewise, virtually every athlete uses booze which is worse and worse for you than weed. The government's hypocrisy in continuing to allow the sale of booze and cigarettes, not to mention taxing the hell out of them, while banning weed is no excuse for the hypocrisy of its citizenry. I agree that he knew the rules going in, that it was stupid to violate them and that he deserves whatever punishment's prescribed for that. I strongly disagree with the people that liken him to some kind of junkie for smoking weed while looking up to all the pro athletes that drink. Then again, this is sounding more and more like it could be Mo Taylor redux. Everybody wanted to call him some kind of drug addict and it turned out he was busted for taking medication prescribed by his doctor.
I hated Ricky since his first failed test. And Mo Taylor... and Eddie Griffin... and all others who despite having the life go and do things that are prohibited by their jobs... WHOA . Do you kiss your Cafeteria Chef with that mouth? I didn't expect a Teacher to express herself like that. Speak your mind here and not in the school, I guess.
