1:08 = luis scola owned.. This guy is 17, hes basically a junior in high school playing with 25+ year old men in a top euro league and on a national team... and i see people saying theyd rather want a guy like gerald green over him?
He has good ballhandling skills and can break down defenses, he was struggling a little with Greece trapping him in the backcourt and Spain had to get Calderon back in the game. Expected for a 17 Yr old Kid.
that wasn't scola or even a team that he played for or taken at a time when he was even playing in that league.
This is the game of the 51 points-24 rebounds-12 assists, and... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HGKEUfUScJw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HGKEUfUScJw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> for the overtime. A good comparation? :
I love his game but I think it is still a huge risk for a team to take him at #1. He still needs to fill out, get a consistent shot, and most importantly make it clear he wants to be in the NBA eventually. Right now I see him staying in Europe, but because of his amazing potential I don't think he slips past #3 in next years draft. I think he makes himself eligible but signs a long term contract in Europe.
This kid is going to be the modern Pete Maravich. But I'm not sure he'll even want to play in the NBA with the recent trend of players going to Europe. I can't wait to see him play live today.
I definitely think he'll play in the NBA but I'm not totally sold on the guy just yet. Some athletes peak early and reach their plateau before playing at the highest level. Not every phenom pans out. But to have his court vision and handles at such a young age is extraordinary. That one pass to Marc Gasol on the break was sicker than sick. He also seems to have a confidence and swagger beyond his years. If you guys want to watch another guy with a lot of incredible high school highlights on the internet, check out Jerryd Bayless (drafted by the Blazers). Crazy sick stuff that will make your jaws drop to the ground.
What impresses me about Rubio is his patience, he doesn't get rattled can see things as they are happening or about to happen and waits for them to develop and then delivers the pass. Very nice skill to have and one that is uncommon. DD
not impressed with his olympic play.....he threw a ton of terrible passes..........all he really did was throw a couple alley oop passes with one hand just to show off........outside of forcing some turnovers vs liu wei, really hasnt done much,,,,,,,and even that isnt really impressive.
Same. Not sure what people are seeing as far as actually live play instead of youtube highlights. Don't get me wrong, he has potential, but nothing to demonstrate all the hype he is getting. I say that just from what I have seen, though.
He has about 16 assists to 9 turnovers in 5 games. So he's not doing great but ok. But really how do you think a Derek Rose, Chris Paul, or especially a Steve Nash who wasn't even developed at all do against this competition the summer before their senior year of high school?
He looked good at times but very raw and not No.1 draft pick good - Picking teen-aged point guards super high rarely works out anyway.
Teenage point gaurds don't get drafted as the top pick(maybe Magic would have) and it boils down to being a huge risk. But the days of sliping below the top 5 spots when everyone is following your careeer no matter how young you are, are gone. The risk is worth the investment in most general manager's eyes.
Plenty of young PGs have gone in the top 5 and had success.... Magic, Isaiah, Payton, Chris Jackson, Kenny Anderson, Penny Hardaway, Kidd, Iverson, Marbury, Billups, Bibby, Francis, B. Davis, D. Harris, Deron Williams, Chris Paul. All have had good degrees of success in the NBA and many drafted as teens. Even the last couple of years with Conley, Rose, & Westbrook...teams are willing to take a shot at a quality PG early in the draft. If Rubio is deemed to have this level of talent, teams will take him.... DD
Did you not see the "teenaged"? The record for point guards coming out of high school into the NBA draft is grim. Telfair, Webster...etc. The guys you listed went through 2-4 years of college and most of them had incredible raw athletic ability. Rubio right now is a completely different story.
I said that there are plenty of teenage players who have been drafted at the PG position, even this past 2 years.... And if teams think that Rubio is that level, they will take a shot at him.....even if he is only 19....at least if they draft him high, and he stays in Europe, the salary cap should not be a big disadvantage, because as a high pick his salary would have a higher starting point. I am in no way saying he is a top 5 pick, time will tell, he is only 17.....and playing in a pro league, that is a pretty good BBall education. DD
I said No. 1 draft pick as in top overall pick. Crazy Greek MPD guy insisted that he was going to be first overall in 2009.
