A white kid who shoots and runs a team well but can't jump...very exciting Seriously, if this kid was American, nobody would be crazy about him.
i wonder how he would fare against our kids born in 1990..ala kemba walker, brandon jennings, john wall
Pretty much the overall consensus for 2009 #1 pick from every major website and you're comparing him to Luther Head? If he had some of Barry's hops you'd be game for getting him? But if he didn't you'd pass on him right?
He's 6'4, 17 years old and has dominated grown men since he was 15 years old. I think he's already a man. I wonder how much taller he'll grow. I myself grew from 5'10 to 6'1 during college. He may still grow a few more inches. Scary.
Skill wise, court vision, and intensity during a game he is light years beyond anyone anywhere near his age. I've seen him take a charge from a 35 year old man, stand up and stare the guy down, beats his chest after taking it on 3 people in the lane. Kid has no fear. I'd consider him a mix between Nash (creativity) and Ginobili (energy)
You're right. And that's whats sad about basketball here in the states. Most people have the same mentality you do. You're right he's white (spanish), and he cant jump so that makes him not all that exciting right? So he probably wouldn't even make his high school team here. Yet guys that can jump high like Gerald Green- so exciting with his high jumping. I'd rather have them over Steve Nash any day. Not an attack on you, just what United States basketball values and why our skill level is depreciating.
Maybe Rox got a better chance for him now considering the fact that we swapped picks with Clippers or something
he's pretty flashy, but will he be able to beat NBA caliber PGs off dribble? Maybe the suns would want him to keep their system.
Pretty convenient strawman there citing a guy with great athleticism, but low IQ to make your argument. Except for extreme cases, it's pretty much a necessary condition that elite point guards in today's NBA have great athleticism or quickness. Steve Nash may not be a high flier, but he was as quick as it got in his prime. Am I the only one here that came away thoroughly unimpressed by that video? I realize he is 17, but he appears to be slower than molasses, there's the obvious lack of leaping which everyone has pointed out, and the "skills" weren't anything you won't find at a local gym. Quite frankly, that was probably the most unimpressive highlight video I've seen on this site since we signed Loren Woods to a 10-day contract. It's like a continuous clip of a guy shooting open 3's flat footed and doing the same ball-fake before a pass. Whatever. His height is what will save him if he pans out.
I am desperate to see him in action during the Olympics, I am jazzed to see he's in Australia's pool. Looking forward to that game. From Wiki In August of 2006, Rubio led the junior Spanish national team to the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. During the tournament (excluding the final game), Rubio achieved two triple-doubles and one quadruple-double. In the 110-106 double overtime finale victory over Russia, Rubio scored 51 points (including a three-point, buzzer-beating shot from mid-court, to force the first overtime), grabbed 24 rebounds, made 12 assists, and stole the ball seven times, a performance unprecedented in the tournament's history. Rubio also was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after leading it in points, rebounds, assists and steals. These are crazy feats. Almost unfathomable.
