A Kar must be a fan of Real Madrid. I don't know the skill level of Rubio. Saying he below average maybe a fair comment but I can't judge. All I know is that Rubio was a leading guard of Euro champion in both club and national team level. If he was that bad, Barcelona and Spainish national team should have removed him already.
I already explained that Rubio has absolutely no similarity to Jennings at all. They are not similar in any way.
Although I do agree Brandon Jennings is a good player, his stats are a bit inflated. He takes ALOT of shots, and he doesnt make those shots at a good clip. He is a career .376 from the field and .368 from three. You dont want your star point guard to be shooting .376 from the field no matter who he is. BJ is a volume chucker and every now and again he'll do good and put up 55. As for Rubio, his highlights have impressed me but hes nobody to break the bank for, and to compare him to nash is IMHO blasphemy
I have said this before but it needs to be said again in this thread. More than any other position on the floor, a PG is dependent upon his teamates abilities. They need guys that are aware, can catch, and can finish, and are not afraid to make cuts. Rubio succeeds on the international level because he is playing with better players.... In the NBA he will also have better players, and will be a very good PG, if surrounded by the right types of skillsets. Spanoulis pussed out and went home, and he has not improved one bit since he left, instead of working on his game and being challenged he took the easy way out and went somewhere that he could be one of the best players and not have to improve to do it. He took the cowards way out......and he still jumps in the air with nowhere to go, he still tosses the ball into the 2nd row, and still can't shoot a jumper from distance. Weak minded, that is what he is.....Rubio is miles better than him. DD
He is now....lol... I loved the guys potential and grit, turns out it was all false bravado and he has one thing in common with Tmac...both are severe Mama's boys.... DD
He's over 40% from distance for the last 3 years, one of europe's bet shooting pgs. Do you watch European Baketball a lot?
I watched him in the worlds against better athletes and he was horrible......and had not grown at all.... Who cares what he does over in the minor leagues over there if it doesn't translate against better players for the NBA? DD
i remember in one of v-spans first games with us he tried to shoot a 3 over rudy gay and took his time in setting up for his shot and rudy gay stuffed his shot all the way to the halfcourt line, where gay scooped up the ball and got a dunk. Then and there should have been houstons first warning sign that he sucked haha
First, you gotta stop inventing false quotes. Llull has been trained and composed as a PG since he was a child. He was a PG as a pro too, before coming to Madrid (in Manresa). And even in Madrid, he has always combined both guard positions, every year. In 2008-09 season he plays all the year as PG backing up Raul Lopez. They signed Pepe Sanchez for this tear, but was waived by mid-season. Last season he played as PG also until they signed Jaric. And this year he has been playing a lot of PG minutes since Priogioni's injury in early October. Even in the national team, last summer, he finished playing a lot of PG minutes. Calderon was injured and Ricky & Raul were doing bad tournaments. Scariolo liked his defense against PGs and how he pushed the game. At NBA level, Llull has more potential as PG. He would be an undresized SG, whilw can be a well sized PG, plus he has the speed and the experience needed to defend PGs, p&rs, pass screens, etc. Offensively, he knows perfectly the position because he has played there most of his life. -------------------------- Spanoulis can be a better player in Europe currently (and this would be debatable), but no way has more NBA potential than Ricky.
Spanoulis is one of the very best players in the Euroleague. He is less turnover prone than Rubio and he is one of the best shooters in Europe. He is considered the best off the dribble shooter in Europe and the best one on one shooter in Europe. I know that Spanoulis was a gigantic flop in the NBA, but if you think Rubio is better than Spanoulis then you are in for a gigantic rude awakening. Rubio will never be as good as the better guards in Europe like Spanoulis, Teodosic, Navarro. Mark my words on that. Guys like that are far superior players to Rubio and far more talented. Rubio does not hold a candle to such players as that. It's basically insulting to such players to even compare him to them. That's how far below those guys Rubio is. Your comments really cement to me that it is clear that there is an extreme distortion and overrating of Rubio in this forum. You guys need to start actually watching Rubio play because you are not even close to knowing what kind of a player he is. ESPN3.com airs almost all of his Euroleague games. ACB.com airs all of his ACB games. Educate yourself because your opinions on Rubio are frankly ridiculous. You guys are overrating Rubio to epic levels. Please, just actually watch him play. The games are readily available online.
Spanoulis is much better than Rubio in what you call a minor league. They play in the same league. In what you call a minor league, Rubio is barely considered an average player. Yet you claim Rubio is miles better than Spanoulis. You say Spanoulis can't shoot, yet he is one of the best shooters in Europe and Rubio is perhaps the worst shooting perimeter player in Euroleague. This is what I am talking about how this Rubio stuff is out of hand. There is simply no logic in what you are saying. In actuality, if we apply true logic and look at Spanoulis in the NBA and how he did and compare it to how he is leaps and bounds better than Rubio is in the Euroleague, then how does that make Rubio a sure hit in the NBA? Roko Ukic is way better in Euroleague than Rubio is. Sergio Rodriguez is about the same level of a player as Rubio in the Euroleague. Let's just use these three since they all played in the NBA as a logical comparison. Spanoulis and Ukic are way better in Euroleague than Rubio is and Sergio Rodriguez is more or less on the same level as Rubio in Euroleague.............now how well did Spanoulis, Ukic, and Rodriguez do in the NBA? Were any of them good NBA players? So somehow though, Rubio is going to be great in the NBA? Does not add up to me. It is illogical completely to think Rubio will be this great NBA player, when guys that struggled in the NBA playing his same position, are much, much better players than him in his same league. I mean we are talking about they are far better than him in the same league. I find it interesting that one guy can't play in the NBA because he is playing good against "minor leagues", but the other guy struggles against the same minor leagues and he will be this great NBA player. Especially when the other guy that is much better against the same competition already busted in the NBA. Is there any logic to this or are you simply overrating Rubio to an extreme because it is the cool thing to do? Is it because Rubio is a hype machine, is a youtube sensation and because Morey said he was good? You can't possibly be having these opinions based on anything logical. How do you explain Ukic being a lot better than Rubio in Euroleague? Are you saying from your comments that it is because of his teammates? Rubio has just as good or even better teammates as Ukic has. How good was Ukic in the NBA?
There is no reason to start with homer posts here. This is intended to be a serious discussion for Houston Rockets fans. Not for fans of the Spanish national team, the ACB, and in particular, obviously of Real Madrid. These kind of comments you make here just further confuse Rockets fans. I'm not interested in debating with a Spanish homer about this. I am trying to let Rockets fans know the issue factually.
Rubio is like 10 times a worse shooter than Spanoulis is. So do the math. It is nonsensical that people think Rubio is going to be a superstar.
To the op, I have also watched alot of euroleague games and I agree with you and have been saying as much myself. I had access to all the rubio games and I was very unimpressed with his game. He is a big pg, but isn't strong, quick, athletic, cant shoot. If he and a injury free shaun livingston were matched together as prospects, it would be a no contest. Livingston has everything he has in terms of vision and ball handling, but livingston was and still is more explosive. Rubio doesn't creat seperation when he gets by people because he has slow feet.
Thank you. I don't understand why these other guys don't just simply watch him play an actual game. The comments about him being a superstar are ridiculous. The Spanish homers chiming in does not help either. DD Dakota's comments really make me shake my head to be honest about it. I am not sure if he is just joking around or not?
Not, I think Rubio can be a very good player in the NBA, he, like all good PGs, get better by playing with better players.... There was no problem getting seperation in the Olympics or the Worlds....he is an excellent PnR PG. VSpan however is just a wussy. DD
I'm telling you DD, he's going to be an average pg no matter who plays with him. I like his court vision/decision making, but he's going to get abused by smaller quick guards and bigger stronger guards. He cant shoot, has slow feet, and no explosion.
