Don't apologize for what's in your heart . Did Hakeem apologize to David Robinson or Ewing for whipping them ?
Really you are upset that I said I would root for Zombie Joe Stalin if he coached the Rockets? Really? And in case you missed it I've said Adelman has struggled. That's what it means when I say he lost his mojo..
I have refrained from posting these last couple of pages. I just can't understand the irrationality. How can people disagree about these points? Rick was a good coach, he did a damn good job here and we need not be classless towards him. McHale has been good for rebuilding as is noted by how our players have progressed. Lets hope that we can accomplish more than we did in the past, while maintaining respect towards those in the past.
You didn't say anything wrong imo, just let it go. This appears to be turning into a crap storm into nowhere.
Actually I am a 2000er. I started posting under a different name but started a new account in 2007 and felt it would be better to start new than to ask Clutch to change my handle.
Amen to that. I fully agree. I'm sure we can all refer to this in the future when our personal bias gets the best of us.
I'm not bothered I'm just surprised that someone is actually upset that I brought up "Zombie Joe Stalin."
Adelman is a great coach and will probably be a hall of famer. But he and morey didn't agree on the direction, coaching and controls or some combination. In particular he was loyal to his staff (which I salute him for) bc he did not want to make room for assistant coaches with moreys philosophies (ie three and rim system instead of read react). And morey and les have the right to go with a coaching staff that bought into the way they want to do things (ie more openness to statistical experimentation and more shuffling players until a true superstar came on board. So when ricks contract was up they decided not to renew. They had too much respect to fire adelman, but they had fundamental differences and realized it. I would have loved adelman as coach had he been willing to buy into morey's philiosophies. But that's probably not who he is. He's a great fit for others but not for this team. While Mchale is clearly not his coaching equal, Mchale is willing to be influenced by the front office and is a leader (as opposed to x and o) coach. He helped get Dwight to the team (cited by Dwight himself) so that alone justified his hiring. And he's been getting better. I want a gm and head coach sync for the team. I think Mchale can help recruit and motivate. I think he's been perfectly fine (and I'm a Lin fan too)!
Sorry can't do it. There was a very solid reason for doing so and I am not. I had completely forgotten the Zombie Joe Stalin quote and now that I know it arouses some strong reactions I am thinking about changing my handle to that.
Lots of truth in this post on what factually happened with the Rockets, why Adelman was not brought back, and why it was the right choice. Also, completely agree on the Dwight signing being enough a justification for the McHale signing.
I don't know how that post--which is a decent post-- shows any sort of factual evidence. There are very few direct quotes about the incidents leading up to Rick/Rockets parting ways. It's largely he said vs. he said... Again, it's all speculation. None of us were there for those meetings. To each his own though. We may never know, and I know Morey does not care to go back into it. It would be an insult to the current coaching staff. I'd give a special shout out to JB and Kelvin Sampson for holding it down if I could. Anyway, I'm done with this thread. The only good that came out of this is that it solidifies my belief that Rockets fans are some of the most passionate around. To make a thread about a former coach go this long is awesome. Peace!
Ok, you're right about him being a player. He wasn't a very good one but yes, he managed to warm the bench in the NBA. Get out of Yao? Well, I think Yao was a ready product by the time Adelman got to him. I think it's laughable to say that Adelman got more out of Yao than his prior coach. JVG really helped Yao transform into a dominant player. Adelman isn't a great post-up coach. All the guys you name - Webber, Divac, and Brad Miller - none of them were post-up players like Dwight wants to be. In fact, Webber hated the idea of being a post-up player which was perfect for Adelman. Divac was more of a passing and mid-range center. Never the kind Dwight aspires to be. So I think you really are making my case that Adelman isn't they type of guy who is going to capitulate to a ball dominant big man. It's just not his style. It's well known that Adelman claimed he couldn't implement his offense in houston because of Yao's and T-mac's style didn't fit with what he wanted to do. He was always using that as an excuse. "Well we haven't been able to implement my offense". To give him credit for Yao is ridiculous in my opinion. I don't see how my previous post equals to dumping on Adelman. I think he's a good coach in the right situation. Minny isn't the first place he failed. he did pretty poorly in Golden State as well. He's just a coach that needs the right type of players to succeed. That's why he keeps bringing the same guys back from prior teams. That's why Brad Miller was a rocket way past his prime. Loyalty is great. But it's not necessarily a winning formula. Like I said, Adelman is a great coach for 20+ teams in this league. Houston is not one of them.
It's funny how some people use what Adelman does in Minny to discredit what he did in Houston in order to prop up McHale. It's like using how Moses Malone can't play in the NBA now to discredit what he did as a Rocket in order to prop up Terrence Jones.
Easy, I've never seen you drop it like this. This is like NAS dropping Illmatic, not the crap with Puffy It's good stuff, keep it up
I've noticed this too. But its only Morey's brigade protecting him. By admitting Adelman did a fantastic job with the little talent given, your essentially giving credit to someone besides Daryl Morey. Morey's troops will not have that. All the credit must go to Daryl Morey or nothing else matters
What team in the Western Conference top 8 is Minnesota supposed to be better than? Where exactly did you expect them to be? I'll wait
I don't get why being happy with McHale and feeling he is the right coach for this situation is "poo-poo"ing Adelman either, but that's what it seems like is really going on here.
