    that it's classless. jeez...

you guys can make all the excuses that you want, but it's bush league. Just because you go to/went to Yates doesn't mean you should blindly defend it.

Be proud of your team, but c'mon...

To you. They look just like the HS pitcher that stays in the game to complete his no-hitter to me.

And it seems the only people who agree with you are fans of the team. I'm sure bullies who beat up other children think they are fully justified as well.

And I also rooted for Dream to get the cheap assist at the end of the game to complete one of his rare triple doubles. Did you?

I went to Washington and Yates is our archrival. They also gave us the business this year. But I am happy to see a HOUSTON team succeed, and I don't believe in penalizing kids for being better at something than others.

Great call on the no-hitter analogy. I guess that would be bush league too. Or anytime a kid tries to set a state record in something. My cousin used to hold some in HS track. I'll be sure to call him today and fuss at him for not being a good sport and slowing down when he had his race in hand.

    Pitcher throwing a perfect game?

    Dream getting a triple double?

Man, your comparisons to this situation totally suck.

And I really feel dirty as an American, for throughly enjoying watching the Dream Team kick the snot out of everyone in 1992. Some of those teams had an issue with that, right?

Your comparison sucks, too. (A little less, but still pros = amateurs... is a fail argument)

Actually they don't. A pitcher no hitting someone is as embarrassing as it gets in baseball. If the game is in hand then it's really no difference then these boys trying to hit 100 or break a scoring record. Or please explain the difference.

A trip dub with the game in hand is just as cheap, using this logic.

Ok, then what is the difference between this and a HS football team going after a record for consecutive victories, or a track kid aiming for a state record, or a HS no hitter?

I agree that the kids playing in the game keep trying to play, but fouling in the last minute to hit 100, with the game completely in hand?

It's ****ING high school. There will never be an excuse for that.

And if you defend it, you're dumb. Sorry. But you are. Somebody is going to kick this guy's ass, and I won't feel bad. I just hope he doesn't get seriously hurt. If the reactions of people defending him are any indication, this gets emotional for a lot of folks. I hope it stops at a beating.

cmon, the whole bully analogy is absurd.

has anyone in the press (or even in person, I guess) actually talked to any of the players on the losing end of these blowouts?

I guess I just can't see it really being so bad for these kids to get blown out, especially by a team that's been one of the best in the country for the past 2-3 years or whatever.

Sometimes you kick some butt, sometimes you get your butt kicked. In my first organized bball game ever, my team of 4th graders lost to a team of 6th graders 60-4. we lost another game that year 58-2. no one cried or felt bad about themselves afterwards. we just lost badly to another, better team, shrugged it off and went to practice the next day.

I'm on the fence about whether it's "classless" or good sportsmanship or not, but I think everyone up in arms on some "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" type of argument needs to calm down. it's only a game.

Since it is such a poor comparison then tell me why do teams keep a no-hit pitcher in the game once the score is out of hand? It happens all the time on the HS level.

LOL at advocating violence at this situation. WOW. And somehow the ones defending this as not being a big deal are the emotional ones....

Because baseball doesn't have a clock. You have to get your 27 outs, no matter how many hits and runs you give up. Putting in a worse pitcher would only drag out the game - it doesn't help get it over with.

How does that *rare* and *individual* achievement disrespect or show poor sportsmanship towards the opposing team?

How does leaving in a pitcher (which could even be argued as something that actually gives the other team a BETTER chance of scoring) do that?

As otto said, a more apt comparison is stealing bases when you're up 20.

But it helps the losers have some on-field success, right? Maybe the team winning at the time should just hit the ball and continue to stand at home plate or immediately run outside of the basepath.

Why is this a big deal again?

Some of you act like these HS games were played in the Boys Scout of America Basketball League or that these are 10 and under kids. So what if Yates runs up the score, most of the participants on the losing team will never sniff the pro leagues or even college ball, so I don't get the scarred for life angle. Anyone really thinks a kid will hang himself for being part of a team that got blown out? No, it's just a cool story bro to tell when he grows up joins the working rat race.

And for the people who scoff at the pro/amateur comparisons, what about the UH run and shoot era under Pardee and Jenkins?

No one has suggested that the Yates people just stop playing. When this is your response, it's fairly clear you just you're grasping at straws. If you weren't, you wouldn't need to compare something that's fairly normal and expected (and accepted) with something that no other team seems to find necessary or appropriate.

why do i keep seeing this "scarred for life" stuff come up? no, i dont think kids will be "scarred for life" by being beat by 100. thats not the point. again its about sportsmanship. if anything, this coach is asking for a player of his to get hurt because another team went after him. i'm surprised it hasnt happened yet. is there any reason why the school who apparently have dominated for years with this coach dont move? is it not possible for them to do so? if the league is so weak that its not even helping them prepare, why not ask to move to another league? i'm sure an exception can be made.

i dont know anything about texas high school stuff, but what about these other teams in the league? are they improving from year to year? will they have a shot at competing anytime soon? did they just run into an all star team this year? if theres no hope for these teams, then imo, the head coach and AD should be looking to get moved. maybe its not possible...but again, with the attention its garnering and the passion that clearly runs with this issue, it can only end badly.

as i stated earlier, nobody is gonna change anyones minds. either you think its cool to run up the score and a take no prisoner attitude, or you think its ridiculous and think its poor sportsmanship. i would say my main concern here is the safety of the players involved. if the coach is actively looking to set records by embarrassing teams, again, it will probably end badly. all it takes is for a hot headed teenager that doesnt want to put up with it.
