I agree that this is a stupid argument. I stopped just short of saying that in my first post on page 1.
And thanks for understanding the loyalty. I guess my Crimson and Gold colored glasses prevent me from seeing what's wrong with beating the **** out of another team, even in HS.
I just think both sides will have some entertaining stories to tell when they look back on their younger days. It's not a big deal to me.

Jesus Christ. The word is tactic. I got it, though. You go hold hands with Rick Reilly and glorify a huge scumbag like Josh Hamilton on his terrible TV show. I'll be a Houstonian(with no ties to Yates) that is proud to have the best HS basketball team in the country playing in a city that the national media routinely ****s on.

I can't speak for any of you but I always hated when someone played down to me on the court. If you're better, you're better. Keep doin your thing. Give me the opportunity to figure out a way to stop you. Afterwards, daps, insults, and laughs.
BTW, if any of the kids parents (and girlfriend to a much lesser extent) are walking out the door then that's an indictment on them, not Yates.....he got bigger issues to deal with.

To clarify, I think the lack of positive press has something to do with it being an inner city school. I fully believe if one of those other schools were dominating the country like this over a 3 year span, then they would have more positive press.

I think it has more to do with Houston. If it were an inner city school in LA, Chicago, or New York they would be getting a lot more positive press. In terms of high school athletics' relevance in Houston, basketball comes in fifth behind football, football, football, and football.

Yup. Take some players out at the knees. After all, Yates has set the tone: sportsmanship is no longer a factor. It's win at all costs. Right/wrong are no longer part of the equation, it's just win, win, win. So, you cause some game/season/career ending injuries and voila!: instant level playing field.

Or, could it be that the goal of high school athletics is to do more than just win? Could it be that the goal is to teach discipline, self-confidence, and respect (which extends to the other team)? Maybe, just maybe, winning isn't the only thing (sorry, Coach Lombardi).

Yeah that's the rumbling in the community. It took Lee's coach getting mad at Yates for not quitting before the news crews came out. Nevermind that this team was state champions; one of the top ranked teams in the nation at the time that had just swept tournaments in Alabama and Hawaii. I'm sure they could've come up with a nice angle about some Third Ward kids flying across the pacific for the first time.
We were asking about the lack of positive press prior to the negative press.

I'm referring to local press. I've seen other schools get way more press for less things. I fully understand why the national media would dismiss us.

i don't really care about yates or not (i don't know any Houston high schools and couldnt pick yates out of a lineup), but to hear some people try to defend 100 plus point complete blowouts while still running up the score in the final minutes is downright comical.

From my perception that's a fair point. I didn't hear much about Yates till the Lee game.

He just said that every other dominant team in history steered clear from this sort of thing. I was simply pointing out that is not true.

Yeah... Every other dominant high school basketball team. I thought that would be pretty obvious from context. And I'm sure you can probably even find one or two examples to poke a hole in that if you want to be totally literal.

But the truth is, that there have been better teams than this Yeats team, and if they are not known for being @ssholes, douchebags, and bad sports, they were somehow able to manage to not run up the score without permanently scaring their players, as Icehouse suggests will happen.

In baseball, if you tried to pull this crap, you'd get beaned. Several times.

I'm certain things like this have happened tons of times long before 2010. The problem with that was in those times, the media wasn't as big as it in now, not to mention that we now live in a knee-jerk society.

    All I got for now...

How exactly would that work in baseball? Miss at pitches on purpose?

If you steal bases when your team is up by 20 runs, or if you grandstand after hitting a homerun when your team is up by 20 runs, you will get plunked. Even if the wronged team has to wait a year.

Running a full court press when you are leading by 50 or 100 points is equal to stealing bases when you are up by 20 runs.

That classless @ssholes can win as many games as they want, but they will always be losers, and winning more and more games won't wipe that stink off of them. The harder they try to blow people out, the more pathetic they look.
