I get that but just because something is "considered" appropriate doesn't mean that it truly is. It was once "considered" appropriate to not allow certain people basic human rights based on skin color (extreme example I know). If those basketball kids are "traumatized" by getting smoked, the baseball kids probably feel the same way after getting throttled. I say that it's all good. Let the kids play.

So what team was better, the Ridge team from 99-10, or this JY team over the past 3 years?

The fact is, that baseball players don't feel shown up from being no-hit. They do feel shown up from stealing bases when ahead. And football or basketball teams both feel offended when you running up the score. If you care to locate real world data, a brief google will find you examples of all of this.

In any case, when you start comparing Yates HS to MLK, that is the sign that should leave. Good luck.

Lol. You know that's not what i'm comparing. And thanks for letting me know "for a fact" what all HS baseball players feel shown up about. You must have done a lot of "brief googling" to compile all that "real world data". Thanks again. Otto, Donny...Can we just agree to disagree?

I don't think this can be used against them as I think they could've beaten pretty much any team you threw at them. I don't think they're invincible, though. They played a powerhouse team from Philadelphia that almost beat them. Neumann/Goretti is a nationally-ranked team and is one of the best teams in Pennsylvania/the Northeast. They lost by 1 to Yates.

Another way to look at it is that Bellaire was the top ranked 5A school in the state (before they lost recently in the playoffs to Fort Bend Bush). They had only 1 loss. That loss was to Lancaster - a 4A school. The same Lancaster team that Yates just beat.

Do some research, cowboy. They're the No. 1 ranked high school team in the nation and with this win, they will be named National Champions. MAJOR FAIL.

    Karma's biaaaaaaaaaaaaatch.

if yates is supposed to represent houston, it might be time for me to claim another city as my hometown.

not this year, but the Cards were top ranked the state last year
February 21, 2009: Houston, TX 77004) Yates Lions (Houston, TX) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad bounce the visiting Bellaire Cardinals (Bellaire, TX), 102-69 in a non-league bout.

actually, yates doesn't come anywhere close to representing houston. i'd go with fort bend bush who actually makes everyone proud that they're from this area.

lol...thats funny because i know plenty of people in Houston that are proud of the Lions, and none of them went to Yates. So just because you dont like the coach, dont take it away from those kids.

Fort Bend (Bush) represents Houston while Yates, which is 5 minutes from downtown Houston, doesn't?
Yates is a part of HOUSTON's HS sports identity and history while plenty folk in the area doesn't even know that Bush exists. I understand that you're not happy about it but Yates DOES represent Houston.

    BTW, congrats to Bush also.

Yates might or might not beat other 5A schools.
Based on their dominance in 4A, if they don't petition to play 5A, I'll call them out as being chicken sh ...

I wonder if anyone ever asked the kids how they felt about running up the score.

I don't know coach Wise, but it sure reads like the guy from Karate Kid saying sweep the leg.

Particularly the fouling to get to 100, that is just not putting the game in the proper context.

I don't have any issue with having the 2nd and 3rd teams play hard, not sure I agree with pressing all game, but that is at least understandable if that is the way they play.

Fouling to get to 100 though is pretty classless, IMO.

At the end of the day, Karma will rear it's head.....

BTW before someone brings it up......the youth team I coach is undefeated in the last couple of years, and regularly blows out opponents. We won the championship game 70-29 about a week ago.

However, we stop flipping the score when we get up by 20 points, and just keep it in the books.

Also, I have the same issue in that my 2nd team players are better than most of the other team's first team players. I think it is probably the coaching.

    :)

UIL determines school district alignment by total student enrollment per school. Yates could very well petition to move to another district or possibly move up to 5A, but their football team must do the same (I think).

Besides, I really don't think the talent level between a 4a and 5a team is that much of a large gap as everyone one here tries to make it out to be, it's not like 1A vs 5A.

And think of it as the boxing weight classes, just because you're the heavyweight champion of the world doesn't necessarily mean you're the best pound for pound fighter in the world, Manny Pacquiao has that distinction now and fighters who had that mythical title before in recent times have come from the welterweight/middleweight class.

I think their football team was playing 5A ball a couple years ago and decided to drop off to 4A. Maybe they fear taking a beating if they have to play 5A teams?
Moving to 5A should be an easy decision to make then.

Actually, yates was 5A (and OWNED the city in football) until the mid-late 90's. Then almost all Houston inner city schools were moved to 4A.

Like there style of play or not can we all agree that this is the best team to come out this area since TJ Ford's Willowridge teams.
