Can I have a third option? I have several friends working for the Sanchez campaign and I know a couple working for Perry. They both suck to me. Between Perry's absolutely hideous record on home insurance and healthcare and Sanchez' REALLY shady dealings in the past, I'm not sure I could vote for either of them in good conscience.
But then your vote will play into the outcome of the election just as much as it would if you just stayed home on election day. I agree that we are ready for a third party. But the Greens and the Libertarians are never going to be able to compete.
I was a potential Perry voter out of default. Now I won't vote for either. Perry ran a campaign listing which elections Sanchez didn't vote for. I believe in a secret ballot. A person has the right to vote secretly or not vote secretly. Whether or not this info is publicly available, people that look up this information aren't following the priciples I would want in an elected official. I usually decide on my canidates based on the lesser of two evils principle.
Joe Joe -- really???? i mean, it is public information? you could probably find it on a website somewhere...or certainly look it up with ease. if he'd hired a private investigator to stalk sanchez that would be one thing...but turning up public records doesn't offend me. i'm just completely uninspired by perry...nevertheless...he is the lesser of two evils. fortunately, in texas being governor doesn't mean as much as it does elsewhere.
I cannot in good faith vote for either Sanchez or Perry. Much like the Brown - Sanchez mayoral race, I'll probably vote for the 3rd party candidate with the coolest name. Anyone know if The Outlaw Josey Wales is running for governor?
I'm 21 and I can't vote. I feel like a black female living in the 1800's. But if I could vote, I would go with Leslie as governor and Jennifer Gayle as mayor (of Austin). You gotta love this city, if for that reason alone. Where else in Texas do you have two transvestite bums running for office in lingerie? Transvestite Bums > Power-fiending politicians Power-fiending politicians < Scrotum sweat
this is the attitude that keeps the alternate parties down... if you get out and vote, regardless who you vote for, you can still send a message and by voting for an alternate party, the message can be sent that we want other options. the alternate parties will never be able to compete if folks don't vote for them... I don't think you agree that we are ready for a third party, if you are not even willing to vote for the others. I will continue to vote for alternate parties and if others do too they will be able to compete. when a democratic candidate raises hundred of thousands of dollars for a republican, something's wrong...
wow, it's a shame you feel this way... obviously you don't own a house and have to go and look for new home insurance because the governer was paid millions by the insurance lobby for favors/special legislation/looking the other way, that ended up hurting the people of texas... and not just those that lost their insurance, those that have to pay higher rates with their current insurance companies also! can you please tell me in what state governers mean more?
usually i disagree with madmax but i agree with him here. If I recall my highschool civics class correctly, the Texas governor was intentionally given few powers as far as governors go (the weak governor model, i think it was called) owing to what supposedly was a distrust of centralized authority. So the short answer to your question is.....almost all of them.. But that doesn't mean the governors race is meaningless.
Custer sent a message...where did that get him? People will not vote for them en masse until they come closer to center. You have the Greens who will sacrifice just about anything for more environmental regulation (and they have a BLUE candidate)...you have the Libertarians who should be closer to center, but they keep themselves on the fringe by alienating damned near everybody at some point...and then you have the Ross Perot freaks - oh wait that died already. The current third parties are viewed as being WAY too fringe to take seriously. I don't think you know me well enough to tell me what I do and don't agree with...and they haven't given me anything to vote for as of yet. I'm not going to foolishly throw away my vote so I can vote for none of the above and then say Oh...but I voted. It's been going on for a couple of decades now and they're no closer to competing now than they were then...you just keep on thinking that. If a honest to goodness center based third party popped up I would consider their candidates...but they haven't. If you think that this is just the governor and that the governor has all this power in Texas then you don't understand the way things really work here.
Much like the last two presidential campaigns, I dont want to vote for either. As much as I would love it if a good third party candidate could be found, I agree with ref on that one..they are just too far out for me.. The last independent I came close to voting for was Ross..but he wigged out towards the end of the campaign, and scared me off.. Mav, I thought the exact same thing last time a repub friend tryed throwing the "no experience" argument at me.."Hmmm, gee, so you're saying that I shouldn't vote for Sanchez because he has no experience as governor, but in the last race you voted for Bush, who had no experience either?" Seems like a double standard to me...."it's ok for a Repub to not have any experience, but if it's a Dem, it's not ok?" Anyway...I have been checking it out...still no decision..I still feel that if I voted for either one of em..I couldnt live with myself..especially after seeing the last debate.
rockHEAD -- it's just fact...sorry...the governor is a much weaker position in texas than it is in other states. it does not carry the power it does elsewhere...the race for lieutenant governor is the race for real power in texas.
I wish Sanchez and Perry would fall into a deep, dark hole and take their commercials with them... does anybody else change the channel when EITHER one of them is on?
Frontal labotomy or bottle in front of me? (1) Aggie Yell Leader who has never had an original idea in his life vs. (2) Shady Laredo banker who is a bagman for plaintiffs lawyers I have trouble with the idea of simply letting one of those Good Humor Ice Cream Salesmen on a group tour of the Governor's Mansion. But voting for Sanchez is like voting for Clinton, you feel dirty later. Would an ex-pro wrestler like Minnesota had be any worse? Some choice we have.
