Playing C-bud so many minutes is a sign of bad coaching. I agree RA is one of the better coaches in the league, but you can't really defend his in-game coaching as anything but average at best and mediocre at worst. If we can't find an upgrade its better to stick with him, but he'll never be the coach that gets you to the promised land, not unless you have a team stacked with superstars.
Ok, I admit giving C-bud so many minutes drives me nuts! For in-game coaching, in regular season games he lets the players figure things out for themselves most of the time, it's in the post season that you see him making lots of adjustments. Which coach would you rather have instead of Adelman?
People seem to forget the number of close games that were lost on the court. By the players. Not from the sidelines. LA Lakers L 110-112 Golden State L 128-132 San Antonio L 121-124 Chicago L 92-95 Chicago L 116-119 With execution in these games there would be less naysayers among us.
lol phil jackson couldnt win a championship without superstars, heck, how many nba championships have been won without at least 2 HOF'ers. 2 outside the NBA/ABA era? (94 and 04)
So coaches don't impact close ball games? What you just posted looks more like a pattern than anything else
What NBA finals team isn't stacked with superstars? Kobe/Gasol Pierce/Rondo Bron/Wade Duncan/Parker Dwight/Arenas Dirk/Kidd I mean you say that as if it's a negative about him, but I don't think ANY coach could win a finals in today's NBA without superstars/elite talent. Do you think a "good" coach like Popovich could win big with our current roster? Not a chance.
Yes Rick Adelman could win big if we had Superstars. He is a good coach but not a great so far. So far we dont have Superstars to prove if he can win Championships though.
PJ and Pops would have us 5 games above 0.500 by now. That's the difference between great coaches and above-average ones like RA. And again, I sound like a hater but I only have an issue with RA's roster decisions during games. RA only makes a handful of mistakes, but his handful of mistakes have cost us several games already which is why people like me criticize him so much.
Let's not pretend that it is easy to get 0.500 without all-stars. The Rockets are the only 0.500+ team with no all-stars in the starting lineup. In the West, Spurs-Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili Mavericks-Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Caron Butler Lakers-Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest Jazz-Deron Williams, Andrei Kirilenko Thunder- Kevin Durant Hornets-Chris Paul, David West, Nuggets- Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups Trailblazers- Brandon Roy(started almost all games, until the last 2 weeks.) All-stars in Lottery land in the west Suns-Steve Nash, Grant Hill*(Asterick-He was an all-star, but he never regained that form after his multiple surgeries.), Carter*(new player) You aren't going to get the same results as the other teams with multiple all-alstars, even if you had Phil Jackson as coach. Jackson isn't going to turn Scola into Pau Gasol and Kevin Martin into Kobe Bryant. Without Gasol, Pjax struggled to get their team 1 game above 0.500(42-40) in '07, even though he had Kobe all season.
PJ couldn't even do it with the best player in the game in 2007. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAL/2007.html
One of the better coaches of the league? Definitely. Coach of the Year? No logical reasoning behind that thus far.
I dont think we have any allstars but we do have alot of almost stars. Scola Brooks Martin Lowry(has played like one almost for this time) Second tier good starters/6th man of the year/ role player types. Courtney Lee Miller Chuck Hayes Battier Jordan Hill Alot of good and nothing great. Even some tempting players on the bench but ultimately not playing. Terrence Williams Patrick Patterson
I think our worst was 3-10....I can't recall if we were 1-9......that seems worse than the team actually was...IIRC. DD
I forgot about Pops. Last season, Pops only had the Spurs 9 games above 0.500 with 3 all-stars. You think the Pops would win only 4 fewer ames, if had Scola, Martin, Battier and the rest of the Rockets cast instead of Duncan, Ginbili, Parker, Blair, and Hill? LOL
That's the point. In the west, all the teams with only "almost" all-stars are lottery bound, except for the Rockets. Rockets are treading water. Grizzlies(Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph-2010 All-star) Warriors(Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry) Kings(Tyreke Evans, Demarcus Cousins) LA Clippers(Blake Griffin, Chris Kaman-2010 All-Star) Timberwolves(Kevin Love. Beasley)
Yeah but his system really isn't built for superstars, which is what kind of worries me because you need one or more to have a chance at going through the top teams like the Lakers, Heat and Celtics. The direction were going is more of a balanced attack like the old mavericks, Jazz, suns... uptempo teams that may go deep in the playoffs but never get over the hump to win a championship against halfcourt teams with superstars and great defense like the Lakers, Spurs and Celtics.
I get whay you are saying and agree on that part. Its the reason why his best etam was the Webber, Divac, Peja, Bobby, and Hedo lineup. He has to have alot of almost superstars. Still couldnt get past the Lakers ever with that lineup.
